How Mercedes-AMG & Signify Broke an EV World Record

Mercedes-AMG offers high-performance EVs like the EQS 53 and EQE 53, featuring powerful electric motors, advanced technology and luxury interiors.
Signify, the world leader in lighting, is a partner of Mercedes-AMG and helped it to set a new world record for EV performance.
Breaking EV records
The CONCEPT AMG GT XX secured a new world record for electric distance driving, completing 40,075km in 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes and 7 seconds.
The company says that the EV was “basically driving around the world in eight days".
The record-breaking drive took place at Nardò Ring, a well known, high speed circular test track in southern Italy.
Signify’s smart, energy efficient lighting was set up at critical points of the track, including the tunnel and pit stop, where safety and visibility are essential.
Signify’s Philips Philips Ledinaire floodlights and Color Kinetics ColorGraze IntelliHue luminaires created functional and ambient lighting, enabling drivers and pit crews to perform at maximum capacity to deliver “exceptional performance”.
“Huge congratulations to the Mercedes-AMG team on this spectacular record-breaking achievement," says Harsh Chitale, CEO Professional Business at Signify.
"Mercedes-AMG has an army of engineers scrutinizing every aspect of their car’s design to improve every detail that can improve performance and we are thrilled that our lighting played a role in creating optimal performance conditions for drivers, engineers and team members.
“With cars driving at such high speeds, consistent high-performance lighting at critical points of the track also provides an important additional layer of safety."
Powering the circuit
Signify’s Color Kinetics ColorGraze IntelliHue Powercore was used to provide both ambient lighting within the tunnel and clear functional illumination for drivers.
The ColorGraze luminaire is capable of delivering millions of saturated colours including subtle pastels and high-quality white light from a single precisely controllable fixture.
It was strategically installed inside and outside the tunnel to guide and enhance the driving experience.
Signify’s Philips Ledinaire all-in floodlights provided powerful, high-lumen lighting for the pit stop, charging and repair areas, enabling the crew to work with accuracy and speed during demanding conditions.
Combining functional and ambient illumination, the energy-efficient floodlights feature an adjustable colour temperature controlled by a single switch, ensuring optimal visibility for rapid tyre changes and quick repairs.
Signify’s all-in-one solar street lighting was installed along sections of the track with little or no access to the electrical grid, with the SunStay Pro providing reliable illumination at low energy use.
Built for durability, the system featured custom pole-mounted brackets with adjustable tilt angles and required no trenching for cabling, preserving the surrounding landscape.
Delivering high-quality lighting with minimal environmental impact, the solution reflects Signify’s commitment to clean energy and low carbon, circular innovations.
“This is a great example of how lighting goes beyond visibility, it shapes how people perform, feel and respond under pressure,” says Harsh.
“With a shared passion for technological innovation and performance, Signify is proud to support the Mercedes-AMG team with lighting that is not only smarter but enhances safety and is more sustainable.”
Creating fast EVs
Mercedes-AMG’s 2025 electric lineup builds on the brand’s performance heritage with high-powered versions of the EQE, EQE SUV and EQS, each enhanced with AMG-exclusive design elements, advanced all-wheel-drive systems and increased output.
The AMG EQE Sedan delivers up to 677 hp with dual motors and AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, while the AMG EQE SUV offers around 625 hp and up to 283 miles of range, combining everyday utility with performance engineering.
AMG plans to expand its portfolio with a potential standalone 4-door electric model, inspired by Vision AMG concepts that showcase the brand’s design and innovation direction.
