Lithium Americas has chosen ABB as its electrification partner for the Thacker Pass mining project in Nevada, which is located above North America's largest known measured and indicated lithium resource.

The collaboration will involve ABB delivering a complete range of electrification infrastructure to support the mine, which is projected to yield 40,000 metric tonnes of lithium carbonate annually – enough to supply batteries for roughly 800,000 EVs.

ABB's participation in the project will be watched closely by the wider sector. Mining is frequently classified as a 'hard-to-abate' industry, where implementing electrification and sustainability proves more challenging than in other sectors.

If the Thacker Pass project succeeds in achieving meaningful sustainability it will act as a benchmark for future sites.

A study from Climate Analytics, a non-profit climate science organisation, indicates that the 1.5°C climate target could still be achievable.

This contradicts other analyses from the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and other climate modelling studies that suggest the goal is no longer viable.

Hyundai is moving forward with its commitment to EV manufacturing in the US with the opening of a huge, 89,000-square-foot training facility in Ellabell, Georgia.

The centre will be instrumental in preparing a new generation of American workers for the specialised roles required in the production of EVs.

The Hyundai Mobility Training Centre of Georgia, inaugurated on 5 November 2025, is strategically located next to the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Bryan County.
