Uber Technologies and BYD have announced a multi-year strategic partnership to transform the rideshare industry with EVs. The collaboration will bring 100,000 new BYD EVs onto the Uber platform across key global markets, starting in Europe and Latin America and eventually expanding to the Middle East, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Chuanfu Wang, Chairman and President of BYD, emphasised the shared commitment to innovation and sustainability, stating:  "Uber and BYD share a commitment to innovate towards a cleaner, greener world and I am excited to work together towards that future."

Pricing and financing for Uber drivers

As part of this partnership, Uber and BYD focus on providing drivers with access to best-in-class pricing and financing options for BYD vehicles.

The initiative is designed to lower Uber drivers' total cost of ownership, making it easier and more affordable to switch to EVs. Given the current landscape, where the cost and availability of financing remain significant barriers to EV adoption, this collaboration aims to remove these obstacles, encouraging more drivers to go electric.

Financing and lease offers will be tailored to meet the specific needs of drivers in different regions, ensuring that the partnership's benefits are accessible to a wide range of drivers across various markets.

Collaboration on autonomous-vehicles

Looking beyond the immediate benefits of EV deployment, Uber and BYD have agreed to collaborate on the development and future deployment of BYD autonomous-capable vehicles on the Uber platform.

As the world's most significant on-demand mobility and delivery platform, Uber is uniquely positioned to bring autonomous vehicle technology to a global audience at scale.

The collaboration could pave the way for a new era in urban transportation, combining the sustainability of EVs with the cutting-edge technology of autonomous driving.

Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD and CEO of BYD Americas, says: "This collaboration marks a new era in the electrification of urban mobility and we look forward to seeing our cutting-edge EVs become a common sight on the streets of cities worldwide."

The multi-market agreement between Uber and BYD represents a significant step forward in the global transition to electric vehicles. By making EVs more accessible and affordable for rideshare drivers, this partnership supports sustainable transportation growth and sets a new standard for innovation in the industry.
