BMW UK Joins GreenFleet EV Rally 2024 with EVs
BMW UK is participating in the GreenFleet EV Rally 2024, showcasing the latest in their all-electric line-up with two teams featuring the BMW i5 Touring and the BMW iX2.
These EVs represent BMW's innovation and commitment to sustainability, offering a glimpse into the future of electric mobility.
The all-electric lineup: BMW i5 Touring and iX2
The BMW i5 Touring blends cutting-edge technology with elegant design. With its spacious interior and refined driving dynamics, it’s the ideal companion for the rally’s 1,400+ mile journey.
Meanwhile, the BMW iX2, a compact Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), combines modern design with all-electric driving pleasure, providing ample space and an impressive range.
While the Rally embraces the nostalgic AtoZ road map theme, BMW ensures that the technology inside their vehicles is anything but old school. Participants will enjoy fully connected cabins equipped with charge-optimised route maps and a suite of features designed to enhance the journey.
The My BMW App will be instrumental in planning routes, finding optimal charge points and monitoring electric range health from each checkpoint.
Demonstrating EV capabilities and charging infrastructure
The GreenFleet EV Rally serves as a platform to demonstrate the capabilities of EVs and the robustness of the UK’s charging infrastructure.
Sponsored by Lex Autolease, the event aims to show that EVs can meet the diverse needs of UK fleets and improve efficiency.
This year's event will see approximately 50 EVs embark on a 1,400+ mile journey, starting in the Midlands and travelling through iconic UK landmarks.
The route for the EV Green Rally 2024, also known as the A-to-Z EV Rally, covers over 1,400 miles across the UK, with participants visiting towns and checkpoints in alphabetical order. The rally starts at the AA's Oldbury Innovation Centre and proceeds as follows:
Day 1: The journey begins at Oldbury and covers nearly 270 miles, ending with an overnight stop at Carlisle.
Day 2: Participants head north to Gretna, then east to Gateshead, and finally south to Sheffield, with stops at the Innovation Hub at Drax Electric Vehicles and Compleo UK's charging site.
Day 3: The route takes participants towards Cambridge via Norwich, with checkpoints at myenergi's premises and GRIDSERVE's Electric Forecourt in Norwich.
Day 4: Teams leave Cambridge and head to a new EV charging facility, then travel southbound past West London, and continue southwest, visiting Virta Charging at BMW UK & MINI's premises.
Day 5: The final leg covers more than 300 miles, visiting Exeter, Yatton, and Zouch, before finishing at Cawley House in Chester, the hub for headline partner Lex Autolease.
From small-scale trials to commercial testing
BMW’s focus is not only on showcasing its vehicles, but also demonstrating the potential of electric mobility.
The rally provides an opportunity for BMW to highlight advancements in its EVs and the real-world driving range and performance they offer.
