Fiat 500 Gets Mad Max Electric Makeover
Tunley Environmental & Team BRIT transform a written-off Fiat 500e into a Mad Max-inspired, sustainable EV with a bold, unique design

In a bold fusion of sustainability and innovation, Tunley Environmental has embarked on an ambitious project to restore a Fiat 500e with an unconventional twist.

Partnering with Team BRIT, the world's only competitive racing team composed entirely of disabled drivers, the project aims to transform a written-off Fiat 500e into a Mad Max-inspired EV.

The collaboration showcases cutting-edge creativity and makes a daring statement about the future of sustainable automotive design.

A new take on sustainable automotive design

The restoration of the Fiat 500e, initially destined for the scrapyard, is more than just a mechanical overhaul; it's a redefinition of what sustainability can mean in the automotive industry.

Tunley Environmental is leveraging this project to challenge traditional perceptions and demonstrate the potential of repurposing EVs. By rescuing a category S write-off, Tunley is highlighting the environmental benefits of extending the life cycle of EVs rather than discarding them.

The project is a powerful example of how the automotive industry can innovate within sustainability, pushing the boundaries of eco-friendly transportation.

The power of collaboration

The collaboration between Tunley Environmental and Team BRIT brings together two entities known for their expertise in different fields. Tunley Environmental, with its deep knowledge of net-zero strategies and environmental innovation, provides the vision and sustainability framework.

On the other hand, Team BRIT, renowned for adapting vehicles for disabled drivers and pushing technological limits in motorsport, brings its engineering prowess and creative problem-solving to the table.

The partnership exemplifies how environmental consciousness and technical ingenuity can work hand-in-hand to create something unique — a functional EV and a conversation starter.

Mad Max meets electric: A bold transformation

The restoration of the Fiat 500e goes far beyond a standard repair. The rugged, dystopian aesthetic of the Mad Max universe inspires the project's design features. Modifications include:

  • Integrated roof charger: An innovative addition that uses solar power to enhance the vehicle's sustainability
  • Exterior roll cage and bull bars: These additions are not just for show but offer enhanced safety and durability
  • Upcycled interior: The car's interior will feature leather from discontinued products, emphasising sustainability and waste reduction
  • Off-road capabilities: The vehicle will be lifted and fitted with off-road tyres, transforming the compact city car into a rugged machine
  • Solar pack integration: A solar pack from a Nissan Leaf, another category S write-off, will be incorporated to boost the car's green credentials further.

Al Locke, Engineering Director from Team BRIT, expressed enthusiasm, noting: "This is like nothing we've worked on before, but there's nothing we can't engineer. We love the fact this project is made with meaning."

Documenting the journey

The Fiat 500e's transformation will be documented through photo and video content. Social media channels will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration process, including raw footage of challenges, triumphs and the unique modifications that make this project stand out.

The journey will culminate in a final reveal video showcasing the completed vehicle in all its Mad Max-inspired glory.

This project, blending innovation with a touch of madness, is set to redefine expectations around sustainability and electric vehicle design.

Through this creative endeavour, Tunley Environmental and Team BRIT are not just reviving a car — they're sparking a broader conversation about the future of sustainable transportation.
