A platform for collaboration and sustainability

Dassault Systèmes describes its 3DEXPERIENCE platform as a transformative tool for industries aiming to create sustainable innovations.

By offering virtual twin experiences, digital models that replicate real-world systems, the platform enables businesses to optimise production processes, manage lifecycles and foster collaboration on a global scale.

For the automotive industry, this technology offers a powerful response to the challenges of electrification, connectivity and autonomous mobility. It allows manufacturers to improve product quality, maximise part reuse and streamline complex workflows.

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is already helping more than 350,000 customers worldwide tackle these hurdles while reducing costs and development time.

Laurence Montanari, Vice President of the Transportation and Mobility Industry at Dassault Systèmes, summarises the platform’s appeal: “Automakers are under pressure to deliver new products and functions quickly and cost-effectively.

Laurence Montanari, Vice President of the Transportation and Mobility Industry, Dassault Systèmes,

"Volvo Cars excels in developing unique vehicle experiences. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform will provide the technology to build these best-in-class experiences by combining hardware and software development.”

Volvo Cars has been a longstanding user of Dassault Systèmes’ CATIA applications, which are part of its design and engineering toolkit.

This familiarity will ease the transition as the company migrates its data into the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

By consolidating various tools into one scalable system, Volvo’s engineers can collaborate more efficiently while addressing challenges like regulation compliance, test validation and traceability.

Tools driving Volvo’s EV ambitions

Volvo Cars’ engineers will use several tailored industry solutions from Dassault Systèmes, each built on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. These include:

  • Efficient multi-energy platform: Streamlines the development of diverse energy systems.
  • Global modular architecture: Promotes flexibility and part reuse.
  • Smart, safe & connected: Focuses on integrating advanced safety features and connectivity.
  • Sustainable multi-functional vehicle: Enhances the sustainability of designs.

These solutions allow teams to collaborate in real time across different locations and improve efficiency at every stage of vehicle development.

Leadership in climate action

Volvo Cars’ commitment to sustainability is further reinforced by the recognition of its CEO, Jim Rowan, who was named to TIME’s 2024 Climate Leaders List.

Jim has been acknowledged for his innovative leadership in creating sustainable business practices and addressing climate challenges head-on.

The TIME100 Climate Leaders List identifies individuals making measurable contributions to tackling climate change. His inclusion highlights Volvo’s dedication to a sustainable future through net-zero emissions and circular business practices.

“I’m honoured to be included on the TIME100 Climate Leaders List among individuals driving impactful change," comments Jim.

"This recognition reflects the collective efforts of everyone at Volvo Cars. It takes thousands of dedicated people to drive our sustainability agenda forward and we are united by a common ambition: to reduce the use of fossil fuels and take the actions required to advance the climate agenda.

"We are at a pivotal moment in history and the shift from fossil fuels to clean energy has never been more urgent. Electrification offers a powerful opportunity to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality and create more sustainable jobs.

"However, real progress needs collaboration and everyone can play their part. That includes businesses delivering on their sustainability ambitions, consumers choosing brands wisely, Governments prioritising clean energy through stable and supportive policies and the financial sector accelerating capital allocation toward sustainable growth."

Dassault Systèmes’ platform, paired with Volvo Cars’ innovative ethos, marks a significant step forward in redefining electric vehicle development and sustainable mobility.
