Stellantis accelerates EV offerings and advanced tech, launching 20 new models and pioneering next-gen battery cells to meet sustainable mobility demand

Stellantis reported a significant dip in Q3 2024 net revenues, highlighting the financial impacts of its strategic transition towards next-generation products and streamlined inventory.

The company saw a 27% year-over-year revenue decline, driven by reduced shipments and less favourable product mix, pricing and currency exchange effects.

Total shipments dropped by 20%, totalling 1,148 thousand units.

Despite these challenges, Stellantis has reaffirmed its 2024 financial guidance as it prioritises long-term growth and sustainability.

Product blitz: Next-gen launches

In 2024, Stellantis launched approximately 20 new products to electrify its line-up and broaden its customer appeal.

The "product blitz" features a versatile range of vehicles built on Stellantis' STLA platform, which supports hybrid, all-electric and gasoline powertrains.

Among the notable launches in Q3 were the following:
  • Alfa Romeo Junior: Targeting the European B-segment market, the Alfa Romeo Junior delivers a blend of performance and versatility with multiple powertrain options, including electric and hybrid.
  • Citroën ë-C3: Priced to make electric mobility accessible, the new all-electric ë-C3 has garnered over 25,000 orders since its release. Two range options are priced at US$25,217 for 320km and US$20,634 for 200km. The hybrid C3 has seen high demand across Europe.
  • Citroën Basalt: Launched initially in India and now available in Brazil, the Basalt is positioned as an affordable SUV starting at US$15,604, which balances space and style for budget-conscious markets.

Looking ahead, Stellantis plans to roll out highly-anticipated models in North America, including the all-electric Dodge Charger Daytona, Jeep Wagoneer S and the Ram 1500 REV and Ramcharger EV pickups.

Meanwhile, Stellantis' Leapmotor International venture debuted in Europe, offering electric vehicles from the Chinese automaker Leapmotor.

The collaboration provides European buyers access to advanced battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) at competitive prices, with models such as the C10 SUV (420 km range) and the T03 compact (265 km range) priced under US$21,000.

Technology push: Expanding BEV models and battery innovation

Stellantis is ramping up its EV offerings, with 40 BEV models available in Europe by the end of 2024.

The organisation's multi-energy platforms, such as the STLA Medium platform, are central to the expansion, powering models like the Peugeot E-3008 and E-5008 and offers up to 700km range.

In the US, Stellantis is investing more than US$400m in Michigan facilities to enhance multi-energy manufacturing capabilities, allowing adaptability to different electrification scenarios.

Additionally, the company is exploring advanced battery technology to support future models.

In collaboration with the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), it aims to develop high-performance, low-carbon battery cells to power its BEVs. By 2026, it plans to incorporate Factorial's solid-state batteries in a demonstration fleet of Dodge Charger Daytona models.

Despite financial challenges in Q3, Stellantis remains optimistic, bolstered by its aggressive product and technology pipeline and strategic partnerships.

With its comprehensive approach to electrification and sustainability, the company is well-positioned to meet evolving customer demands and industry trends. As it continues to innovate and expand its offerings, it seeks to redefine mobility for a sustainable future.
