Concord Pacific opens world's largest EV charging parkade
Concord Pacific's Hillside project in Burnaby hosts 1,974 EV-ready spots, setting a new benchmark for sustainable, accessible residential charging

In a groundbreaking move for sustainable infrastructure, Concord Pacific has unveiled the world's largest EV charging parkade at its four-tower Hillside development in Burnaby, within the Concord Brentwood community.

The state-of-the-art facility, capable of charging nearly 2,000 EVs simultaneously, reinforces Concord Pacific's commitment to green energy and transportation options.

Terry Hui, President and CEO of Concord Pacific, noted on referencing Concord's investment in renewable energy projects that span wind, solar and hydro power: "This milestone is in keeping with our longstanding commitment to sustainable future communities."

A comprehensive approach to EV accessibility

The Hillside Parkade exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to EV accessibility. All 1,974 underground parking stalls in the facility offer round-the-clock EV charging capability, supported by a robust electrical infrastructure.

The setup ensures that every power point in the parkade can operate simultaneously, a feature that far exceeds typical city requirements for residential EV access.

"As someone who works in the green energy field, I felt Concord Pacific's decision to make our parkade 100% accessible to EV charging was a bold move that proves it can be done."

"Knowing this development supports EV owners, I had no hesitation in buying here as the value of the EV charging will carry well into the future."

Supporting community and environmental goals in Burnaby

Local government officials view the EV parkade as a significant step toward community-wide sustainability goals.

Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley commended Concord Pacific's commitment, linking the parkade to the city's climate targets, stating: "Achieving carbon neutrality is a community-wide effort that includes residents and businesses in Burnaby and it's great to see Concord moving forward with this development.

"Making it easier for folks to drive electric vehicles, ride their bike, or take transit will help us cut down on carbon emissions and achieve our climate goals faster."

In addition to EV charging, the Hillside development prioritises proximity to alternative transportation options. Located less than half a kilometre from the Brentwood SkyTrain station, the development offers residents quick access to rapid transit.

Future phases of the community will include a comprehensive bicycle network connecting Burnaby and Vancouver, encouraging more sustainable commuting options.

Green energy and innovation

The world's largest EV parkade is the latest milestone in Concord Pacific's 35-year history of environmentally responsible development. The company has pursued a diverse portfolio of wind, solar and hydroelectric projects across five Canadian provinces through its clean energy division, Concord Green Energy.

The initiatives support the company's broader vision of integrating green energy into its real estate developments, addressing the evolving energy needs of future communities.

In 2015, Concord Pacific committed at a UN Global Citizen's Laureate dinner to prioritise green infrastructure in its projects, a pledge that the EV parkade directly supports.

Concord Green Energy's projects now produce over one gigawatt of renewable power and the company's US$5bn Amisk Hydroelectric project in Alberta will contribute significantly to economic activity and clean energy output, creating an estimated 1,000 jobs during its construction phase.

A model for future urban developments

Concord Pacific's Hillside EV parkade sets a new standard for sustainable urban infrastructure, demonstrating the potential for large-scale EV adoption within residential developments.

By offering 24/7 EV charging to all residents and supporting clean transit options, Concord Pacific meets the needs of today's eco-conscious consumers and contributes to a sustainable future.

With its ambitious green projects and commitment to renewable energy, Concord Pacific continues to lead in integrating environmentally responsible infrastructure, shaping communities that align with the evolving demands of urban sustainability.
