GM Energy launches PowerBank for home and solar integration
GM Energy introduces PowerBank, offering home energy storage, solar integration and power outage support, expanding access across all 50 states

General Motors' energy division, GM Energy, has launched its latest innovation in energy storage, the GM Energy PowerBank.

The stationary storage solution allows EV owners to store and transfer energy from the grid while offering seamless integration with solar power systems.

Alongside the launch, GM Energy has expanded access to its energy management products across all 50 US states, positioning itself as a leader in the growing home energy storage market.

GM Energy PowerBank: energy storage and flexibility

The GM Energy PowerBank comes in two variants, with 10.6 kWh and 17.7 kWh battery capacities, providing consumers with different energy storage levels to meet their needs.

The innovative product offers a reliable power source during outages or peak electricity demand, helping customers lower costs by reducing reliance on grid energy during expensive periods.

One of PowerBank's standout features is its ability to integrate with solar power systems.

Customers can store energy generated by solar panels to power their homes or supplement EV charging, giving them control over how and when they use energy.

Notably, the PowerBank can provide power to homes without an EV present, making it a versatile option for households looking to adopt renewable energy solutions.

For customers requiring additional capacity, combining two 17.7 kWh PowerBanks can create a 35.4 kWh energy storage system.

This is enough to power the average American home for up to 20 hours, providing peace of mind during extended power outages.

Flexibility and modularity in energy management

Wade Sheffer, Vice President of GM Energy

According to Wade Sheffer, Vice President of GM Energy, one of the critical strengths of the PowerBank is its modularity and flexibility, stating:

"One of the core differentiators of GM Energy's portfolio is its modularity.

"The flexibility of our energy management tools, combined with one of the market's largest lineups of vehicle-to-home-capable EVs, gives our customers more control over their energy use, helping to mitigate the impact of power outages, integrating renewable energy options and unlocking additional values."

Wade's comments highlight GM Energy's focus on providing adaptable solutions for various customer needs.

GM Energy enables homeowners to manage their energy consumption in a way that suits their lifestyle and sustainability goals by offering products that can integrate with solar systems, EVs and traditional grid power.

Seamless energy management with GM mobile apps

As with existing GM Energy products, the GM Energy PowerBank are compatible with solar systems by design for easy access and control via GM's brand-specific mobile apps.

This allows customers to seamlessly manage their energy use, monitor power storage levels and control integration between their home energy systems and EVs.

With the launch of the GM Energy PowerBank, General Motors is broadening its footprint in the home energy storage market.

This will give consumers more control over their energy consumption and enhance resilience in the face of power outages or grid instability.

Whether integrating renewable energy sources like solar or leveraging EV battery storage, GM Energy is positioning itself as a versatile provider of energy solutions for the future.
