The Tussell EV Charging Public Sector Market Report provides insights into the UK's public sector EV charge point (EVCP) market.

It highlights the dominance of a few key suppliers, analyses market growth, and examines procurement trends.

The report serves as a strategic guide for new and existing suppliers to understand market dynamics, identify successful strategies, and capitalise on future opportunities.

It further underscores the significant role of local government and the impact of framework agreements in awarding contracts.

Dominance of top suppliers

Data reveals that ten companies have secured 73% of all government EVCP contracts since 2013 despite a surge of new entrants into the market.

Austrian firm SWARCO leads with 46 contracts, followed by bp pulse with 40.

Other key players include Connected Kerb, Blink Charging, Joju Charging, and Siemens.

Only four of the top ten suppliers are based in the UK, and energy companies own an equal number.

Market growth and opportunities

The volume of EVCP contracts awarded by public authorities has grown twentyfold from 2013 to 2023, with nearly 75% initiated by local governments.

Lloyd emphasises the importance of the public sector market for EV charging infrastructure providers.

The volume of EVCP contracts awarded by public authorities grew by 20x between 2013 and 2023.

Strategic insights for suppliers

The report suggests that the success of the top ten suppliers is partly due to the framework agreements and Dynamic Purchasing Systems (DPSs), which streamline contract awards.

Since 2013, a significant portion of contracts have been awarded through these mechanisms.

Suppliers aiming to penetrate this market should analyse the top ten strategies, focusing on the frameworks they use and the specifics of their contracts.

Future projections

If current trends continue, the UK public sector EVCP market could reach a value of US$4.2b ( £3.3b) by 2030.

The Labour Party's 2024 manifesto indicates accelerating the roll-out of charge points, supporting the transition to electric vehicles, and maintaining the 2030 phase-out date for internal combustion engine vehicles.
