Top 10: Electric Pickup Trucks

EV Magazine’s top 10 electric pickup trucks include the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV and Alpha Wolf

As companies continue to increase offerings in electric vehicles, we take a dive into the top electric pickup trucks both currently on the market and launching soon.

Alongside the names you’d expect to hear — Tesla, Ford, Rivian — there are some exciting offerings from less known companies including Atlis, Alpha and Fisker. Despite being less established in the space, these companies are producing vehicles with some impressive statistics and are definitely some to watch.

10. Toyota

Toyota has an impressive track record when it comes to ICE trucks, the Tundra and the Tacoma both being great examples. Whilst there are no concrete details about Toyota’s electric truck offering, it is definitely one to keep an eye out for, and not just because it may be modelled after the Tacoma.

“BEVs represent one of the most promising options for achieving carbon neutrality,” says Akio Toyoda, Toyota CEO.
“For that challenge, we need to reduce CO2 emissions as much as possible, as soon as possible.”

9. Atlis XT

Despite being another slightly elusive vehicle, Atlis Motor Vehicle Company promises its first EV will be the most capable truck out there — able to tow up to 20,000 pounds, with a payload capacity of 5,000 pounds, and range of up to 500 miles. Despite being one of the cheapest on this list starting at US$45,000, it still promises to deliver up to 600 hp, and achieve 0 to 60 mph in just 5 seconds or in just 18 seconds when fully loaded.

8. GMC Hummer EV

Hummer is one of the most iconic brands when it comes to pickup trucks, and the EV offering isn’t scrimping on power, offering up to 830hp,  0 to 60 mph in just three seconds, 11,500 lb-ft torque and achieving 314 miles range. The Edition 1 is powered by three electric motors, two on the rear axle and one at the front.

7. Tesla Cybertruck

The heavily anticipated Cybertruck — announced in 2019 — is finally hitting the roads. With an exterior made of a Tesla-designed Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel and ultra-strong glass and polymer-layered composite that can absorb and redirect impact force for improved performance and damage tolerance, the vehicle certainly looks different to others on the market. It features up to 500 miles of range, 1,500kg of payload capacity and costs around US$50,000.

6. Rivian R1T

The first electric pickup truck available for purchase, the R1T was launched in 2021 yet is still the top selling electric truck in the US in Q3 2023. Its four engines produce a combined 835 horsepower and 908 pound-feet of torque, and team with a battery up to 180 kWh, to get up to 400 miles of range. It runs from 0 to 60 mph in just 3 seconds, can tow up to 11,000 pounds and prices start at US$73,000.

5. RAM 1500 REV

Coming in Q4 2024, the RAM 1500 REV offers a manufacturer’s estimated total driving range of 350 miles with the standard 168 kilowatt-hour battery pack, and up to 500 miles total driving range with the optional 229 kilowatt-hour large battery pack. It achieves 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds, 654 hp and 620 pound-feet of torque. In terms of its truck-specific capabilities, it has an incredible maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and can tackle up to 24 inches of water fording depth. It will also have a full touchscreen display loaded with advanced technology. Ram also promises a Level 3+ autonomous mode — not currently legal on U.S. roads — and a flexible interior layout with saloon-style doors. Prices for the electric Ram 1500 will start from US$58,000.

4. Fisker Alaska

Having spent time at BMW, Ford and Aston Martin, designer Henrik Fisker founded Fisker Automotive in 2007 in an attempt to create the first green lifestyle automotive company. Design is certainly a stunning element of the new Alaska — one of the features that make this car a little different is the drop-down midgate, affectionately referred to as the Houdini Door, that extends the bed into the cabin to elongate the standard load length from 4.5 feet to 9.2 feet. Boasting above average fast charging, and 0-60 mph in 5 seconds, prices start at US$45,400 and it looks to be going on sale in 2024.

3. Alpha Wolf

The cheapest on this list coming in from UA$36,000, the Alpha Wolf will have a range of between 250 to 275 miles, achieve 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds and have a towing capacity of 1360 kg. Only seating two passengers, the Wolf has 43.3 cubic feet of cargo space and will deliver around 215 hp.

2. Chevrolet Silverado EV

One of the best-selling trucks in the US, having sold over 500,000 units in 2022, is the ICE version of the Chevrolet Silverado. So naturally, the EV version is pretty impressive — the currently available RST First Edition has a combined output of 754 horsepower, more than 785 pound-feet of torque, range of up to 400 miles, 10,000 pounds of towing capabilities and sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. Its starting price is US$39,990, however the Chevrolet Silverado EV RST First Edition is priced at $105,000.

1. Ford F-150 Lightning

Our top electric pickup truck comes from Ford, and is popular as both a fleet and personal vehicle. When fitted with the standard battery it offers 452 horsepower, or with an extended range battery it puts out 580 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque. The F-150 Lightning has a range of up to 320 miles, can tow up to 10,000 pounds, and features more cargo space and a swankier interior than its ICE counterpart. The F-150 will cost between US$55,974 and US$96,874.
