With an extensive range of modular, customisable filtration systems, LiqTech offers highly-specialised solutions for ultrafiltration and microfiltration applications across industries. The company's innovations are central to enabling cleaner and more efficient industrial processes, making it a valuable partner in today's sustainability-focused economy.

As LiqTech moves forward with its lithium brine production system, it strengthens its position in the filtration market. It demonstrates the growing importance of clean technology in supporting the clean energy transition.

LiqTech's advanced filtration solutions are essential in advancing global environmental goals while meeting the practical needs of rapidly-evolving industries through collaborations like these.

Lithium demand soars with the rise of EVs

As global EV adoption continues to rise, so does the demand for lithium. The metal's unique ability to support high-energy electrode chemistries has made it indispensable for sustainable transportation solutions.

However, traditional lithium extraction methods are under pressure to evolve as demand increases, with companies striving to develop methods

Fei Chen, CEO of LiqTech

Fei Chen, CEO of LiqTech, explains that it not only boosts production rates but also meets essential environmental standards: "Brine resources hold a substantial amount of the world's lithium, but until now, the lack of a scalable extraction technology has hindered their development."

Rich in lithium, Brine resources represent a largely untapped source of this vital metal. Effective brine extraction, however, has proven challenging due to the complexity of purifying these resources for use in battery production.

LiqTech's ultrafiltration (UF) membrane technology offers a potential solution, serving as a pre-treatment that enhances the subsequent ion exchange process, which is critical in lithium extraction.

Advanced filtration as a game-changer for lithium brine production

LiqTech's cutting-edge UF membrane technology has shown significant promise in optimising lithium brine extraction. With this order, LiqTech will deliver a customised filtration system to enhance ion exchange processes, allowing for more efficient lithium recovery from brine resources.

By providing a pre-treatment step, LiqTech's UF membranes help remove impurities, improving the purity and yield of lithium extraction operations.

"I'm very excited with this commercial order," says Fei Chen. "In the past months, we have conducted a couple of small-scale tests at customer sites in the US and illustrated the superior performance of our UF membrane filtration technology for lithium brine production."

These successful tests demonstrated LiqTech's UF technology's robustness and reliability in challenging conditions, validating its effectiveness as a critical step in lithium brine extraction.

An opportunity for sustainable lithium production

Scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2024, the new filtration system represents a promising move toward more sustainable lithium production. By leveraging LiqTech's innovative UF technology, the unnamed technology company can achieve higher levels of lithium recovery with lower environmental impact.

As traditional lithium extraction processes face scrutiny due to their environmental footprint, the collaboration highlights how advanced filtration can be a viable solution to balance efficiency with environmental responsibility.

Fei Chen highlights the long-term potential of this partnership: "This order provides a unique opportunity for LiqTech to demonstrate our UF technology's robustness and efficiency in challenging on-site situations.

"We look forward to meeting this customer's requirements within this new application and seeing the significant opportunity it can bring to both parties over time."
