JLR Partners with Tata for Global Vehicle Connectivity
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has joined forces with Tata Communications to enhance its next-generation vehicles, leveraging the Tata Communications MOVE platform to deliver continuous, global connectivity.
The collaboration will ensure JLR clients remain connected even in remote locations across 120 countries, benefiting from real-time vehicle tracking, smarter driving experiences and streamlined software-over-the-air (SOTA) updates.
Enhancing connectivity for a smarter driving experience
The partnership aligns with JLR's commitment to innovation and universal connectivity, ensuring clients enjoy continuously evolving, AI-driven features. The Tata Communications MOVE platform will deliver seamless connectivity for JLR's future medium-sized SUVs, built on the Electric Modular Architecture (EMA).
The integration will support vehicles' effortless transition between mobile networks and operators, enabling uninterrupted access to personalised services such as media streaming regardless of location.
JLR's connected fleet generates 2.5 terabytes of data daily and the platform will enhance data exchange, providing engineers with real-time performance insights.
The improvements will enable efficient over-the-air updates, reducing costs for the company and its clients.
Mark Brogden, JLR's Director of Digital Product Platform Off-Board, explains: "JLR was the first luxury vehicle manufacturer to introduce dual modem, dual eSIM design for enhanced connectivity with the launch of Defender in 2020. The partnership with Tata Communications is the next step in our software-defined vehicle journey, offering highly secure and cost-effective data connectivity across 120 countries.
"Starting in 2026 with our next generation of medium-size luxury SUVs, Tata Communications MOVE aims to deliver continuously connected experiences for our clients, offering features and new software updates over the air to meet the expectations of our luxury client base."
Inside the Tata Communications MOVE platform
Over the past year, JLR has updated half a million electronic control units (ECUs) monthly across its fleet. The MOVE platform will further enhance the process, improving data exchange security and efficiency.
Key features include:
- Resilient connectivity: Advanced wireless communication ensures tracking and data exchange, even in challenging environments.
- Frequent updates: Increased efficiency in software updates for improved vehicle performance and maintenance.
- Tailored experiences: Customised client connectivity, ensuring access to global preferred apps and vehicle features.
- Simplified plans: Streamlined connectivity options via a single provider for an enhanced customer experience.
Driving innovation in automotive manufacturing
As the automotive industry evolves toward software-defined vehicles, continuous connectivity is central to enhancing user experiences and enabling ongoing vehicle optimisation.
JLR is exploring cutting-edge solutions, including low-orbit satellite integration, to support its connected vehicle model. The MOVE platform's secure and seamless connectivity is a cornerstone of this vision.
Marco Bijvelds, Vice President and Global Head of Tata Communications MOVE, adds: "The automotive industry is continually innovating to meet ever-changing customer demands. Last year, our digital fabric enabled seamless connectivity across all JLR's production sites globally.
"As part of our extended partnership, we're now powering JLR's software-defined vehicle journey worldwide and enabling them to deliver advanced driving features in their cars. The insights derived from the data exchanged through our platform will enable JLR to offer personalised customer experiences, opening doors for new revenue streams."
A new era for connectivity
The collaboration between JLR and Tata Communications marks a significant step forward in the evolution of connected vehicles.
The partnership aims to redefine the driving experience by integrating cutting-edge technology and blending seamless connectivity with innovative features to create smarter, more efficient vehicles.
