Volkswagen releases concept for affordable electric vehicle
Strategically named the ID.2all, the latest electric vehicle (EV) introduced by the German original equipment manufacturer (OEM) marks a major milestone towards its goal of affordability.
Volkswagen has made significant moves to electrify its range of vehicles as it also looks to cover all vehicle shapes and sizes with all-electric alternatives.
The latest model that was presented to the public and the press on the 15th March suggests that consumers will in fact be able to own an EV from the VW brand and experience the technological advantages that prove more sophisticated and intuitive than the designs of its predecessors.
While the car’s design is likened to a couple of ICE car models in its range, it leverages the benefits of them both. This draws on the inexpensive and compact design of the Polo while creating a spacious interior in such a small package—a common trait of the much-loved VW Golf.
“We are transforming the company rapidly and fundamentally—with the clear objective of making Volkswagen a genuine Love Brand,” says Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars.
“The ID. 2all shows where we want to take the brand. We want to be close to the customer and offer top technology in combination with fantastic design. We are implementing the transformation at pace to bring electric mobility to the masses.”
A less in electric vehicle affordability
The production version of the car will achieve a range of up to 450 km (280 miles) on a single charge, and will be priced from a lower amount than the current Fiat 500e.

Considering the cost and the range of the vehicle, the ID.2all is set to be the all-rounder, much like its fellow Golf and Polo, which are known for their reliability and consistency.
The ID.2all will also feature some of VW’s latest tech, including its revolutionary modular electric drive (MEB) platform, which Kai Grünitz, Member of the Brand Board of Management responsible for Technical Development, says:
“The ID. 2all will be the first MEB vehicle with front-wheel drive. We are exploiting the great flexibility offered by our modular electric drive (MEB) platform and will set new standards in terms of technology and everyday usability with the MEB Entry platform.”
One of the ten models to accelerate VW’s electrification strategy, the ID.2all showcases the company’s knowhow in exterior design as well as interior. Sporting the signature C-pillar design from the Golf, the EV concept is shaped with what VW refers to as “a clear and powerful stance on the wheels, a friendly face, a good portion of dynamics, and timeless elegance”.
This model is also fitted with VW’s quirky ‘pause’ and ‘play’ symbols on the foot pedals, retaining the element of fun in a subtle and non-intrusive way.
