InstaVolt Milestone: The UKs largest EV Charging Site

The UK's EV infrastructure has reached an exciting milestone with the official launch of InstaVolt's Winchester Superhub. As the largest ultra-rapid-only EV charging hub in the country, the cutting-edge facility sets a new standard in accessibility, speed and sustainability for EV drivers. The Winchester Superhub represents a bold step forward in the nation's transition towards cleaner, more efficient transportation.
The largest ultra-rapid hub in the UK
Strategically positioned just off the A34, the Superhub is on a major road in England, running 151 miles from Winchester in Hampshire to Salford near Manchester. It acts as a key link between the south coast and the Midlands/Northwest and is close to the M3.
The Superhub boasts an impressive 44 ultra-rapid chargers, each delivering up to 160kW of power. The hub's development, approved in 2023, highlights InstaVolt's commitment to transforming the EV charging landscape.
Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt, highlighted the significance of this launch:
"The Winchester Superhub isn't just a charging hub – it's a flagship site that sets a new standard for ultra-rapid EV charging. As our largest and most advanced site to date, it delivers industry-leading reliability at an unprecedented scale, ensuring drivers can charge quickly and confidently."
Unrivalled charging speed and accessibility
The Winchester Superhub offers a seamless charging experience. Each charger can replenish a compatible EV's battery in just 20 minutes.
- Extended bays for vans and towing vehicles
- Three fully accessible Blue Badge only bays
- Drive-through bays to accommodate larger vehicles
The attention to detail ensures a hassle-free experience for all EV users, addressing a critical need in the growing EV market.
Leading the way in sustainability
The Winchester Superhub stands out for its scale and commitment to sustainability. The facility has 870 solar panels, which, combined with a 960kW/4MWh battery storage system, enable the hub to generate and store its own renewable energy. The initiative significantly reduces reliance on the national grid and marks a major step towards energy self-sufficiency.
Delvin noted the importance of this achievement:
"This site is also a milestone in innovation, marking our first-ever location where we are generating our own renewable energy – pushing the boundaries of sustainability and self-sufficiency in EV charging."
The Winchester Superhub offers more than EV charging; by design, it is a complete rest stop for drivers.
- A Starbucks café
- A children's play park
- A designated dog walking area
- Green spaces for relaxation
- 24/7 toilet facilities
By incorporating these features, InstaVolt has transformed the EV charging experience from a mundane stop into a pleasant and convenient break for drivers and their passengers.
The future of EV charging in the UK
The Winchester Superhub represents a monumental leap in the UK's EV charging infrastructure. Its combination of speed, sustainability and driver-friendly amenities addresses key concerns such as range anxiety and accessibility.
As the nation transitions towards electric mobility, projects like the Winchester Superhub will make EV ownership more practical and appealing. By setting new standards in efficiency and sustainability, the landmark facility is not just meeting the demands of today's EV drivers—it is shaping the future of British transport.
With its official opening in March 2025, the Winchester Superhub stands as a testament to the progress in the UK's EV sector, paving the way for a greener, more convenient future on the roads.
