EVgo operates over 1,100 fast charging stations across more than US 40 states
Toyota and EVgo collaborate to enhance EV charging access with high-power fast chargers, supporting sustainable mobility and broader infrastructure growth

EVgo, one of the largest public fast-charging networks in the US, has opened its first high-power DC fast charging (DCFC) stations in collaboration with Toyota Motor North America. The Baldwin Park and Sacramento stations in California, US, were developed under Toyota's "Empact" vision and are designed to increase access to fast, reliable EV charging.

The newly launched stations, owned and operated by EVgo, feature high-capacity 350kW chargers and serve up to eight vehicles simultaneously. The initiative reflects companies' commitment to enhancing charging infrastructure and encouraging wider EV adoption.

A strategic expansion for EVgo

Scott Levitan, Executive Vice President of Growth at EVgo

EVgo, which operates over 1,100 fast charging stations across more than US 40 states, continues deploying localised and accessible charging solutions. By partnering with major businesses, including retailers, shopping centres, restaurants and rideshare operators, EVgo strategically places its stations where they can offer maximum convenience to EV drivers.

Scott Levitan, Executive Vice President of Growth at EVgo, says: " The availability of charging is essential as consumers consider buying or leasing an EV. As automakers offer more electric vehicle choices, EVgo will continue deploying fast chargers for current and prospective EV drivers.

"Collaboration with automakers has been core to our expansion over the last several years and EVgo is grateful for the continued support from Toyota."

EVgo further operates an Innovation Lab, which conducts rigorous interoperability testing to ensure seamless charging experiences for drivers using various EV models. Its ongoing partnerships with leading automakers further solidify its role as a key player in advancing charging technology.

Toyota's "Empact" Vision

James George, General Manager of EV Charging Solutions at Toyota Motor North America

Toyota's "Empact" initiative, first introduced in April 2023, aims to support underserved communities in transitioning to electric mobility. The strategy prioritises three key areas: expanding access to EV charging, providing affordable mobility solutions and reducing carbon emissions.

By working with EVgo, Toyota is helping ensure that convenient and efficient charging infrastructure is available for all battery electric vehicle (BEV) drivers.

James George, General Manager of EV Charging Solutions at Toyota Motor North America, stated:  "Together with EVgo, we are supporting broader access to charging infrastructure for all battery EV drivers, including those driving Toyota and Lexus BEVs. We aim to ensure that customers find the newly opened stations convenient and efficient for their charging needs."

The new charging locations are strategically placed in high-traffic areas with easy access to grocery stores, restaurants and shopping centres. This ensures that EV drivers can conveniently charge their vehicles while going about their daily activities.

Expanding benefits for Toyota customers

As part of the collaboration, Toyota has extended its EV charging programme with EVgo, offering one year of complimentary fast charging to customers who buy or lease the 2025 Toyota bZ4X battery EV compact crossover SUV.

Toyota drivers can locate EVgo stations and initiate complimentary charging through the Toyota App, further enhancing the convenience of their ownership experience.

Local government officials have welcomed the deployment of these new stations, recognising the importance of charging infrastructure in promoting sustainable transportation.

State Senator Angelique Ashby, D-Sacramento

State Senator Angelique Ashby, D-Sacramento, adds: "Toyota and EVgo's action to bring advanced fast chargers to Sacramento is an important milestone.

"Fast charging stations provide critical infrastructure that will amplify the use of clean energy transportation across Senate District 8. This initiative is a win for our environment and for the future of sustainable mobility in Sacramento."

State Assemblywoman, Blanca Rubio, D-Baldwin Park, echoed similar sentiments: "We are excited to receive a new EV fast charging station in Baldwin Park, which will support our city's residents and visitors. Infrastructure investments like this are extremely beneficial to those in the region needing a place to charge their vehicle and a positive step in air quality clean-up."

The partnership between EVgo and Toyota reflects a growing effort to support the transition to EVs through enhanced infrastructure and strategic investments. As more fast-charging stations are deployed across key markets, both companies remain committed to providing reliable and accessible EV charging solutions for drivers nationwide.

With additional charging locations expected to roll out in the coming months, Toyota and EVgo continue to lead the charge in creating a more sustainable future for electric mobility.
