Kenneth Riis Jensen has taken up the role of Vice President Road Sustainability at DSV, one of the world’s leading logistics firms, where he now plays a central role in steering the company’s EV adoption and broader road transport sustainability agenda.

A key appointment for electrifying road freight

In his new role, Kenneth focuses on how DSV can increase the uptake of cleaner transport modes, especially battery-electric trucks and other low-emission vehicles across its road freight operations.

With road freight accounting for a large share of the logistics sector’s carbon emissions, the shift towards electric fleets is central to DSV’s strategy.

ā€œAs we double the size of our company, this new role brings a real opportunity to move the needle - accelerating the decarbonisation of road transport on a global scale," says Kenneth.

"I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved so far, and truly excited to be part of scaling the new technologies that will make an even greater impact in the years ahead.ā€

The timing of this appointment coincides with DSV’s continued expansion, including the recent acquisition of DB Schenker.

With scale comes added responsibility.

The challenge is not just electrifying its own vehicles, but also enabling subcontractors to make the switch, an area where leadership, collaboration and incentives will be essential.

DSV’s EV ambitions as part of a wider climate strategy

DSV A/S, founded in Denmark in 1976 by a group of independent hauliers, has grown into one of the biggest players in global logistics.

Operating across 80 countries and employing close to 78,000 people, the company offers freight forwarding by road, air, sea and rail. Despite its global scale, DSV maintains an asset-light model, allowing it to adapt and evolve with lower upfront investment.

Sustainability sits at the core of DSV’s strategy.

The company has pledged to hit net zero emissions across its operations by 2050.

It acknowledges the impact that road freight has on global emissions and is committed to reducing this by expanding the use of electric vehicles and other alternative fuel technologies.

DSV’s Green Logistics platform supports customers with tools such as COā‚‚ tracking, route and warehouse optimisation and carbon offsetting.

These initiatives aim to both reduce emissions and provide transparent reporting on environmental performance.

Beyond EVs, DSV addresses broader sustainability areas, including waste minimisation, emergency response logistics and inclusion.

These efforts are published through annual sustainability reports aligned with global standards, reinforcing accountability and transparency.

Supporting the EV shift across fleets and partners

Kenneth’s appointment signals DSV’s intention to accelerate its investment in cleaner fleets and digital tools that support sustainability targets.

Although the firm doesn’t own most of the trucks used for delivery, relying heavily on subcontractors, it acknowledges the need to influence the wider ecosystem.

This involves providing guidance, incentives and technological support to third-party hauliers.

While the road ahead includes challenges such as the availability of charging infrastructure, high vehicle costs and limited supply of electric heavy goods vehicles, DSV is investing in digital COā‚‚ management systems and data-driven optimisation to tackle these issues.

As the logistics industry moves towards tighter climate regulations and increased customer demand for low-carbon services, DSV’s leadership will depend on how fast it can electrify its road operations.

Kenneth adds, ā€œI’m particularly looking forward to collaborating with colleagues across our regions, clusters, countries and businesses partners as we drive this important transformation together,ā€

ā€œThis is a pivotal time for our industry and I’m proud to be part of a team that’s not only thinking big, but also acting locally.ā€
