ChargePoint introduces a game-changing Megawatt Charging System, paving the way for large-scale charging of commercial trucking operations

ChargePoint, a pioneering provider of networked charging solutions for EVs, has announced a groundbreaking innovation to revolutionise the trucking industry's transition to electrification.

The introduction of the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) marks a significant milestone in the journey towards large-scale electrification of commercial trucking operations.

Expanding the reach

The MCS represents a monumental advancement in charging technology. It is capable of dispensing enough energy to power approximately 1,000 homes. This immense rate of charge is poised to play a pivotal role in accelerating the electrification of commercial trucking, offering a viable solution to power electric trucks on a massive scale.

Hossein Kazemi, CTO for Hardware at ChargePoint

"Megawatt technology is the first step toward electrifying the commercial trucking industry," said Hossein Kazemi, CTO for Hardware at ChargePoint. "Megawatt charging solves half of the electrification equation for trucking. The companies developing electric trucks can now leverage this infrastructure to test and enable their vehicles until they meet – or even exceed – the distances covered by internal combustion trucks."

Curbing global omissions in the trucking sector

One of the most significant benefits of electrifying the trucking sector is reducing emissions, a critical imperative in the fight against climate change. The MCS offers a tangible solution to this global challenge, enabling the sector to reduce its environmental footprint and advance global climate goals significantly.

By design, the MCS integrates seamlessly into ChargePoint's leading DC fast charging line up, offering unparalleled charging capabilities for commercial trucking applications.

Initially, the MCS will deliver up to 1.2MW of power, with plans to support bi-directional charging and output of up to 3MW.

Interoperability testing for partners

ChargePoint's MCS not only offers remarkable charging capabilities but ensures a smooth transition and seamless integration into existing infrastructure. This feature gives partners the confidence and reassurance they need to prepare for megawatt charging deployment.

Expanding across sectors

ChargePoint's commitment to facilitating electrification extends beyond the trucking industry. The company has been at the forefront of creating a new fueling network to power people and goods with electricity since 2007. With one of the largest EV charging networks and a comprehensive portfolio of charging solutions, ChargePoint offers options for every charging scenario, from home and multifamily to workplace, parking, hospitality, retail and transport fleets of all types.

A single ChargePoint account grants access to hundreds of thousands of charging stations across North America and Europe, facilitating the transition to electric vehicles on a global scale.

ChargePoint's MCS represents a game-changing innovation in the trucking industry's electrification. With its immense charging capabilities and seamless integration into existing infrastructure, the MCS is poised to accelerate the transition to electric trucks and drive the industry towards a more sustainable future.
