Greater Than & FIA’s smart driving challenge at COP28

Smart driving at COP28
At COP28, FIA invites drivers to join its smart driving challenge: Drive Change Today, in order to promote safer & more eco-friendly driving habits

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has a driving test for motorists attending COP28 - the Drive Change Today – FIA Smart Driving Challenge, which has been developed with Greater Than, an AI data analytics company. While this test is not mandatory - it's a chance for drivers to cultivate more sustainable driving habits.

COP28: Smart, clean and safe driving

The climate change conference COP28 will see 70,000 people arrive in Dubai, 30th November – 12th December, with representatives from 197 countries who have signed or are ‘parties’ to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Debates and negotiations will attempt to prevent global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, on topics from climate finance to the impact of meat and dairy consumption to more sustainable forms of transport.

FIA is a governing body for world motor sport and the federation of the world’s leading mobility organisations. The non-profit was founded in 1904, with headquarters in both Paris and Geneva. FIA has a challenge designed to reward smart, safe and eco-friendly drivers at COP28. The FIA Smart Driving Challenge was created in collaboration with Greater Than, to encourage everyday drivers to adopt smarter, cleaner and safer driving behaviour.

Greater Than is based in Stockholm and converts GPS data into driver scores which predict crash probability and climate impact. 10,000 cars from fleets in the UAE will be invited to participate.

AI meets sustainable mobility at COP28

Jacob Bangsgaard, FIA Secretary General for Automobile Mobility and Tourism, believes that bringing FIA’s Smart Driving Challenge to COP28 is an important milestone for FIA and a testament to their commitment to sustainable mobility.

“We believe that grassroots initiatives, especially when they rely on the best technological breakthroughs, are integral in delivering transformative solutions to climate change,” said Bangsgaard. “By encouraging drivers to make small changes to their everyday lives, we can build a better, more sustainable future for the planet and for the road users we represent.”

Johanna Forseke, Chief Business Officer and Deputy CEO of Greater Than, is proud that Greater Than’s AI has been used for this challenge.

“The role that technological innovation plays in achieving a sustainable future cannot be understated," she said. "We feel passionately about utilising advances, such as AI, to empower drivers with meaningful and impactful insights, that in turn help the environment. The FIA Smart Driving Challenge steps this up a gear, encouraging smarter, cleaner and safer driving behaviour. We’re excited to showcase the challenge at COP28 and hopefully inspire more drivers to get on the road to net zero.”
