BYD UK saw a 658% sales surge in 2024, expanding market share and retail sites while boosting brand awareness through major sponsorships

BYD UK continues to dominate the automotive sector with an astonishing surge in growth throughout 2024. It launched in March 2023 and has recorded a 658% increase in sales, reaching more than 8,700 passenger cars sold in the UK, cementing its position as the country's fastest-growing automotive brand.

BYD's market share and retail expansion

Throughout 2024, BYD's market presence grew significantly, with its market share rising from 0.17% in January to 0.96% in December.

The dramatic expansion was supported by a retail network increase from 14 sites to 60 across the UK, with additional sites planned for 2025. Its rapid retail growth has made BYD a serious contender in the UK automotive market.

Expanding model lineup driving success

BYD's SEAL U DM-I

A dynamic product lineup has driven BYD UK's success. The brand entered the market with the ATTO 3 C-segment SUV and has since launched four additional models. Anticipation is high for the upcoming SEALION 7, further strengthening BYD's offerings in the UK market.

BYD UK's best-selling model remains the ATTO 3, while the BYD DOLPHIN hatchback has gained traction as BYD's leading car in the retail sector.

Steve Beattie, Sales and Marketing Director at BYD UK

Steve Beattie, Sales and Marketing Director at BYD UK expressed his pride in the company's accomplishments:

"In the past two years, BYD has gone from strength to strength and I'm immensely proud of the hard work and dedication of our team and retailers. BYD aims to bring high-tech and high-value cars to UK customers and it's fantastic to see more people choosing BYD."

BYD's public recognition has grown exponentially, from 1% in 2023 to 31% in 2024. A significant catalyst for this was BYD's sponsorship of the EURO 2024 football tournament, which reached a global audience exceeding a billion viewers.

In addition, the launch of the SEAL U DM-i in Q4 2024, accompanied by a robust media campaign, significantly boosted BYD's visibility. The model has rapidly established itself as a core offering in the UK range. BYD plans to continue investing heavily in brand awareness initiatives throughout 2025.

Beyond passenger cars: BYD's Legacy in the UK

While BYD's passenger vehicle division is relatively new to the UK, the brand has had a strong foothold in the country for more than  a decade through its commercial vehicle operations. BYD introduced its first fully electric buses to the UK in 2014, with more than 2,000 buses now operating in major cities.

Beyond vehicles, BYD has played a key role in energy storage solutions. Since 2016, the company has provided 1.8GWh of battery energy storage to the UK's national grid, further solidifying its contribution to sustainable infrastructure.

As BYD UK celebrates its phenomenal achievements in 2024, the company aims for greater success in 2025. With a rapidly expanding product line, increased retail presence and rising brand recognition, BYD continues to disrupt the UK automotive landscape.
