Comau’s Digital Manufacturing for EVs
Comau to Advance Battery Systems Testing with a Next-Generation Platform, to Produce High-Performing & Affordable EVs, Says Comau’s Stefania Ferrero

Automation machinery manufacturer Comau is developing a digitalisation strategy for a next-generation battery systems testing platform, which can be used in the production of electric and hybrid vehicles.

Comau’s expertise in digitalisation, process simulation and electrification will be put to the test to advance the testing and verification of automotive batteries. The goal is to minimise the time and costs of battery production by 20%.

This strategy is being supported by The FASTEST project which is endorsed by the European Union and uses Digital Twins, so that customers can replace physical deployment with data-driven models and save time in the process.

Advancing digital manufacturing and enhancing efficiency

Comau develops advanced systems and products for industrial automation and supports companies of all sizes and industry segments to harness the potential of digital manufacturing, by combining innovative engineering solutions with enabling technologies and 'open', easy-to-use automation.

In this new plan, Comau will optimise the digitalisation strategy with its In.Grid IoT platform, in order to analyse the Digital Twin data. This will enable a data exchange from the virtual environment and shorten time to market for battery manufacturers.

Technological innovation for electric and hybrid vehicles

Stefania Ferrero, Chief Marketing Officer at Comau, sees that the shift to e-mobility is revolutionising the transport industry, leading to the development of increasingly advanced power technologies and new production processes that are more efficient, safer and more sustainable.

“Technological innovation is a decisive factor in enabling automotive manufacturers to produce high-performing vehicles at affordable costs,” she said. “Comau is contributing to the energy transition of the automotive sector and beyond, by offering expertise, technologies and systems for the production of electric and hybrid vehicles.”

Comau’s innovative contribution to the transport electrification process also comes from its participation in major international networks, where companies, institutions and research institutes are jointly committed to researching new solutions for sustainable mobility.

“In this area, Comau is working on numerous projects, such as Fastest, with major partners. This is another way Comau is driving innovation. This pioneering initiative aims to significantly lower the time and investment required for the development of batteries, cells and processes, confirming our efforts in innovative solutions for e-Mobility, as well as other sectors. The success of this project will help improve the competitiveness of the European battery industry within and beyond automotive, and is perfectly aligned with our development roadmap for current and next generation technologies.”
