Charge Points : Key to transition to EVs
The transition to EVs hinges on accessible charging points. Monta Charge expanding EV infrastructure ushering in a new era of sustainable transportation

The transition from combustible to EVs marks a pivotal shift in the automotive industry, ushering in a new era of sustainable transportation. As governments and consumers worldwide embrace this change, the infrastructure supporting EVs becomes increasingly critical. At the heart of this infrastructure is the widespread availability of charging points. One cannot overstate the importance of increasing charge points, as they form the backbone of a functional and efficient EV ecosystem.

One of the most significant barriers to EV adoption is range anxiety—the concern about the availability of charging stations, especially on long journeys or in remote areas. Expanding the network of charge points addresses this issue directly, making EVs a more attractive option for a broader audience.

Growing demand for EVs in Europe

In Europe, the demand for EVs continues to rise steadily. Between January and April 2024, 441,992 fully EVs were registered, marking a significant increase of 6.4% over the previous year, according to ACEA. Despite this growth, range anxiety remains a challenge. PWC UK reports that EV sales grew by 10.6%, with EVs capturing a market share of 15.5%. The UK surpassed Germany as the most significant European sales market for the first time. However, the accessibility of charging infrastructure remains crucial in supporting this trend.

Simplifying access with Monta Charge

Despite progress, many electric motorists still face challenges accessing charging points and payment methods. The need for multiple charge cards, different payment methods at charge points, and downloading several separate applications complicates the process. To address these issues, the Danish EV charging platform Monta now provides EV drivers access to over 700,000 charge points across Europe and 23,000 across the UK within one intuitive and free-to-use app—Monta Charge.

Alok Dubey, Director of Strategic Sales - West at Monta

Alok Dubey, Director of Strategic Sales - West at Monta, highlights the significance of this development: "Offering our customers connectivity to 700,000 charge points in Europe, including 23,000 in the UK, is a vital step in enhancing our offering. This progress is part of our efforts through 2024, following our recent US$87m (80M€) Series B round, bringing total funding to US$141 (130M€) in just three years."

Using Monta Charge, EV drivers enjoy simplified and optimised access to various charging facilities across various networks, making electric mobility more convenient and efficient. The app features price transparency, statistics on charging behaviour, remote control, and SmartCharge, simplifying the charging process by configuring personalised tariffs.

Moving forward

Increasing the number of charge points is essential for accelerating the shift from combustible to EVs. It enhances consumer confidence and convenience and plays a vital role in achieving environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. Monta's innovative solutions pave the way for a future where electric mobility is accessible, reliable, and efficient for everyone.
