Formula E Expands Girls on Track Initiative

Formula E: Leading the Charge in Sustainable Motorsport
Formula E's "Girls on Track" initiative promotes diversity and inclusion in motorsport through hands-on education and mentorship

The EV market is a burgeoning industry that requires a strong foundation of inclusivity from its grassroots to its downstream sectors. Formula E, through its "Girls on Track" initiative, exemplifies this commitment to inclusion by encouraging and supporting girls to pursue careers in motorsport.

As Formula E approaches its double-header finale in London for Season 10, it aims to double the number of participants in the Girls on Track program, presented by Hankook.

Commitment to diversity

Julia Palle, VP of Sustainability at Formula E

"The growth we have seen this year is a testament to our commitment to improving diversity within motorsport." says Julia Pallé, VP of Sustainability at Formula E.

"Not only have we seen a huge increase in participants, but the girls involved in the program are purposefully from more diverse communities who would not ordinarily pursue careers in motorsport.

“Suppose we are to change the world motorsport landscape. In that case, we must start and support these grassroots initiatives that have helped many girls with their journey and careers into the industry."

About the "Girls on Track" initiative

Launched by Formula E in collaboration with the FIA, the "Girls on Track" initiative aims to increase the participation of girls aged between 12 and 18 across all levels of motorsport.

The program introduces participants to various aspects of the industry, including engineering, mechanics and driving.

Through hands-on workshops, mentorship opportunities and educational sessions with industry professionals, the initiative breaks down barriers and challenges gender stereotypes.

Educational and hands-on experiences

The program operates at Formula E race events, providing an engaging environment where participants can experience the excitement of electric racing while learning about the diverse career paths available in the field.

It engages girls from host cities and their diverse communities, offering immersive educational experiences through workshops at the track and offsite talks in schools and universities.

The season saw 70 women from across the Formula E paddock deliver inspirational career talks, providing guidance and advice for varied roles across engineering, technology, driving, team management, sustainability, media, and marketing.

Support and partnerships

Hankook Tire, the official technical partner and tire supplier for Formula E, fully supports the initiative.

Other supporters include ABB and Allianz, which are global partners, and WAE, which is an official partner.

These partnerships are crucial in providing the necessary resources and support to make the "Girls on Track" initiative successful.

Activities and opportunities

The initiative offers opportunities to test driving skills on bespoke e-karting tracks or racing simulators. For the first time in Season 10, the experience included a role for one of the girls on the podium at every winner's ceremony.

The "Girls on Track" initiative is a powerful example of how grassroots initiatives can drive significant change in motorsport.

By fostering diversity and inclusion, Formula E is paving the way for a more equitable and sustainable future in the EV industry.

The initiative opens doors for girls and enriches the entire industry with fresh perspectives and talent.
