Ford Advances BlueOval City with Training & Sustainability
Ford's BlueOval City campus in Stanton, Tennessee, is progressing rapidly. The Tennessee EV Center assembly plant is now installing robotic training cells, conveyors, paint spray booths, and stamping press lines.
Prioritising education and local engagement
Ford is dedicated to ensuring that BlueOval City's growth brings tangible benefits to the residents of West Tennessee. Kel Kearns, the plant manager at the Tennessee EV Center, expressed gratitude for the community's warm reception and emphasised Ford's commitment to supporting and uplifting residents.
"We have been humbled by the warm hospitality extended to us by our new neighbours in West Tennessee," said Kel. "As the company that helped create the American middle class, we want residents in every community around the region to benefit as BlueOval City comes to life."
Training for future jobs
Through the BlueOval Learning initiative, Ford aims to develop local talent for jobs at the Tennessee EV Center.
The comprehensive training program includes online, classroom, and hands-on segments, preparing employees to operate, maintain and troubleshoot advanced manufacturing equipment.
Cutting-edge manufacturing equipment
The centre will feature the latest Ford manufacturing technology, including machine vision systems for robot guidance, automated pick-and-place material handling and advanced adhesive dispensing systems.
Hiring for hourly positions will begin in 2025 and training to support customer deliveries of the next-gen electric truck will start in 2026.
Ford Tennessee Discovery Centre
Prospective employees and community members can engage with Ford representatives at Brownsville, Tennessee's new Ford Tennessee Discovery Centre. The centre will offer virtual reality simulations to showcase advanced manufacturing processes.
Environmental and Community Commitment
Ford's vision for BlueOval City includes creating an efficient, carbon-neutral manufacturing facility. Blake Newbill, senior environmental engineer at the Tennessee EV Center, highlighted the importance of protecting local natural resources. Ford is investing in carbon-free and renewable electricity to strengthen the local energy grid and reduce emissions.
Innovative energy solutions
s that capture and reuse heat and geothermal energy. The approach is expected to save approximately 300 million cubic feet of natural gas annually.
Advanced air quality and water conservation measures
The EV Center will feature state-of-the-art emission control systems to protect air quality. By reducing evaporation from cooling towers and reusing industrial water, the facility aims to save around 50 million gallons of water annually. It will also incorporate best practices to prevent chemicals from contaminating storm water and soil.
Community engagement and support
Ford formed the Equitable Growth Advisory Council in 2023, bringing together community leaders across West Tennessee. Guided by the University of Tennessee at Martin research, this council addresses barriers to economic participation for residents and local businesses.
Ford Philanthropy's impact
Formerly known as the Ford Fund, Ford Philanthropy has contributed over US$21 million to West Tennessee, supporting youth programs, essential services, and first responders.
Ford Philanthropy plans to offer additional grants in 2024 and will make a significant announcement in June about further support for the Stanton community. The ongoing collaboration and investment highlight Ford's commitment to fostering a sustainable and prosperous future for West Tennessee.
