Polestar has been celebrated for its sustainability leadership in Sustainability Magazine’s Top 250 World’s Most Sustainable Companies 2025

Swedish electric performance car brand Polestar has a mission to advance uncompromising design and accelerate the shift toward sustainable mobility solutions.

The company has been celebrated in Sustainability Magazine’s Top 250 World’s Most Sustainable Companies 2025.

ā€œThis isn’t just about energy — it’s about mindset,ā€ says Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO.

ā€œWe’re moving from an economy built on scarcity and extraction to one rooted in sustainable abundance. When power comes from the sun, wind, and human ingenuity, prosperity is no longer something we take from the planet, but something we create with it.

Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO.

“At Polestar, this shift defines everything we do. Electric mobility isn’t just cleaner transport — it’s part of a larger transformation where design, technology, and sustainability move in the same direction.

“The age of scarcity is ending. The age of regenerative abundance is here. And it’s ours to accelerate.”

Polestar's sustainability strategy is built around four pillars:

  • Climate
  • Transparency
  • Circularity
  • Inclusion

The company is committed to halving its greenhouse gas emissions per vehicle sold by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality across its entire value chain by 2040 – a roadmap that positions Polestar as a front-runner in the sustainable mobility sector.

Polestar’s lineup

The company's vehicles, available across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific, are engineered for high performance, innovative style and environmental leadership.

Polestar’s long-term ambition is to create a truly climate-neutral car by 2030.

Known as Polestar 0, this initiative goes beyond carbon offsetting and seeks to eliminate emissions entirely across the supply chain – covering everything from materials to logistics and manufacturing.

The project engages a wide network of partners in renewable materials, sustainable steel, and traceable supply chains, with open collaboration at its core. Rather than working in isolation, Polestar shares findings across industries to accelerate collective innovation.

Polestar’s model lineup currently features the Polestar 2, Polestar 3, Polestar 4 and Polestar 5, with future expansions including the Polestar 6 roadster and the Polestar 7 compact SUV.

Manufacturing takes place on two continents, and plans are underway to diversify production further into Europe.

Circularity

Polestar cars are designed for longevity, repairability and recyclability, with increased use of bio-based and recycled materials across interiors and structures.

In the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 models, lightweight aluminum, natural fiber composites and recycled plastics reduce emissions without compromising performance.

Responsible battery sourcing and second-life initiatives further support this goal, ensuring critical minerals are ethically and efficiently used.

Transparency in sustainability, digital and communication

Central to Polestar’s philosophy is transparency.

“Clarity is important in turbulent times – and Polestar is very clear: no delays, no turning back to the past, no hybrids, no greenwashing,” says Michael.

“We are 100% electric and fully committed to our sustainability goals, even though most people prefer to talk more about tariffs than about climate change.”

The company publishes detailed Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) for each model, openly sharing the total carbon footprint from raw material extraction to end-of-life.

This level of disclosure reflects Polestar’s belief that accountability drives progress.

By allowing consumers and stakeholders to see the environmental cost of production, Polestar is encouraging a culture of honesty and continuous improvement across the automotive sector.

Polestar complements its sustainable innovation with digital transparency. The brand uses blockchain to trace key materials such as cobalt and nickel back to their sources, ensuring ethical mining practices.

Additionally, all suppliers must align with international human rights standards and environmental requirements, verified through regular audits and third-party assessments.
