Pilot, GM & EVgo have deployed fast chargers at 130+ sites across 25+ states, supporting 1.3 million EV sales in 2024 with convenient highway charging

Pilot Company, General Motors (GM) and EVgo Inc. have made significant progress in their nationwide EV charging collaboration. Fast-charging stations are now available at more than 130 locations across more than 25 US states. The initiative aims to connect key travel corridors, enhancing convenience for long-distance EV road trips.

As EV adoption accelerates and more drivers plan spring and summer road trips, the expansion of the charging network simplifies travel along major highways, including I-75 between Michigan and Georgia, as well as regional routes such as Minneapolis to Milwaukee, Detroit to Cleveland, San Antonio to Houston and Dallas to Nashville.

Expanding charging options for long-distance travel

Shannon Sturgil, Senior Vice President of Alternative Fuels at Pilot

Shannon Sturgil, Senior Vice President of Alternative Fuels at Pilot, highlighted the importance of accessible EV charging on highways, “As we strive to be the leading energy and experience provider people rely on to fuel their journeys, our travel centres are uniquely able to fill a need for EV owners who are looking to make the most of their miles.

"The collaboration with General Motors and EVgo will continue to bring highway-based charging to more regions and routes where this infrastructure is needed.”

Since announcing their partnership in 2022, Pilot, GM and EVgo have been working toward building up to 2,000 fast-charging stalls at up to 500 Pilot and Flying J locations nationwide.

The stations go beyond charging by offering premium amenities often unavailable at traditional EV charging sites. Features include expansive lounges, free Wi-Fi, modernised restrooms, on-site restaurants and various grab-and-go food and beverage options.

Fast, convenient and reliable charging

To enhance accessibility, every Pilot and Flying J charging station is well-lit, centrally located and open 24/7. Many sites feature overhead canopies and pull-through charging stalls, providing convenience for drivers towing trailers.

The network’s high-power EVgo chargers, delivering up to 350 kW, allow EV drivers to recharge in as little as 15 minutes. Additionally, the system supports Plug-and-Charge functionality, enabling compatible EVs to automatically initiate and pay for a charging session upon connection.

GM’s EV owners can take advantage of the seamless integration through their GM vehicle mobile apps.

With US EV sales reaching 1.3 million in 2024 and a 15% increase in fourth-quarter sales compared to 2023, the demand for charging infrastructure continues to rise. GM, experiencing a 50% surge in EV sales during the same period, remains committed to expanding accessibility.

Supporting the growing EV market

Wade Sheffer, Vice President of GM Energy

Wade Sheffer, Vice President of GM Energy, highlighted the importance of a robust charging network, “Spring break is all about hitting the road, making memories and enjoying the journey — not worrying about where to charge.

"By expanding fast-charging access along major travel routes, our work with Pilot and EVgo is giving EV drivers more confidence to take long trips easily. With more than 130 locations now open, we’re helping ensure charging is seamless and convenient so drivers can focus on the adventure ahead.”

"EV drivers have responded positively to the network’s expansion, with high ratings on PlugShare praising the reliability and ease of use at Pilot and Flying J locations.

Dennis Kish, President of EVgo

Dennis Kish, President of EVgo, reinforced the importance of accessible infrastructure for EV adoption:

“As part of our ongoing collaboration with Pilot and GM, we continue to offer a customer-centric charging experience across our country’s most travelled corridors, building new infrastructure to connect rural, urban and suburban communities.

"Infrastructure availability is a key factor for drivers considering EVs and we will continue to deploy high-power charging infrastructure nationwide to support current and future EV drivers.”

As the demand for EV charging solutions grows, Pilot, GM and EVgo remain dedicated to connecting more highway corridors and ensuring a seamless, reliable charging experience for EV owners nationwide.
