Jaguar’s Type 01, its most powerful model, is set to debut on the streets of Monaco after a pushback of Jaguar EVs in 2025

Tata Motors owned Jaguar says its Type 01 prototypes will appear on the streets of Monaco wearing a distinctive camouflage wrap, ahead of Jaguar TCS Racing competing in the Formula E race weekend.

In a press release detailing the Type 01, Jaguar says its tri‑motor technology delivers more than 1,000 PS and over 1,300 Nm of torque.

Jaguar says the '0' represents electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions while the '1' denotes its status as the first Jaguar of a new era.

This comes after a pushback of new Jaguar EVs in 2025, which was first reported by the Guardian in 2025.

Jaguar says that Type 01 is to be revealed later this year, after it makes its debut on the streets of Monaco wearing a distinctive camouflage wrap

Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar, says: We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before.

“Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance. The Type 01 name is part of that story – for me, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the '1', our first car for a new chapter, a 'one of a kind!'”

While Jaguar has not released much information about  the car, it is built on Jaguar’s earlier Type 00 prototype.

Jaguar said in February of 2026 that with more than 1,000 PS, the new luxury GT will be the most powerful Jaguar road car ever made.

On the Type 00, Professor Gerry McGovern OBE, Chief Creative Officer at JLR, said: “Type 00 is a pure expression of Jaguar’s new creative philosophy. It has an unmistakable presence.

“This is the result of brave, unconstrained creative thinking, and unwavering determination. It is our first physical manifestation and the foundation stone for a new family of Jaguars that will look unlike anything you’ve ever seen. A vision which strives for the highest level of artistic endeavour.”

A step closer to Jaguar’s all electric era

On its website, Jaguar says that “going electric realises a vision of a more sustainable, smarter driving experience that embraces the dynamism and design for which we're renowned”. The company plans to be carbon net zero by 2039.

Thomas Müller, Executive Director of Engineering at JLR, says: “Electrification demands a pragmatic, forward‑facing perspective as a business. We are transitioning into an electric future for all brands, with plug‑in electric hybrids acting as a stepping stone.

“Before the end of the decade Range Rover, Discovery and Defender brands will offer pure-electric options, while Jaguar will be entirely electric.”

Jaguar’s delay on EVs

The Guardian revealed in July of 2025 that JLR had delayed the planned launches of its new electric Range Rover and electric Jaguar models “to give it time for more testing” and for “demand to pick up”.

Market demand for EVs has picked up, especially in Europe, since last year after the US and Israel's war with Iran has caused fuel costs to skyrocket.

However, adoption of luxury EVs has been slower than those at the cheaper end of the segment.

A McKinsey survey of 150 people around the world who had made or were considering a purchase of a luxury car revealed that 20% of respondents declared that they would consider buying a luxury BEV in the near term.

A significant portion of McKinsey’s respondents indicated that they expected to buy at least one more ICE vehicle and 19% stated that they would never buy a luxury EV.
