How Clarios Hit One Million Lithium-Ion Battery Milestone

Clarios, a global leader in energy storage solutions, has reached a significant milestone by producing 6 million 10Ah Lithium Titanate Oxide (LTO) Prismatic Power Cells and 1 million 12V lithium-ion batteries.
The achievement marks its ongoing transition from being a lead-acid battery manufacturer to a chemistry-agnostic energy systems supplier.
All LTO cells are manufactured in-house at Clarios' Meadowbrook plant in Michigan, US, while lithium-ion low-voltage battery production began in Hanover, Germany, in 2020.
Since launching the production line, Clarios has continually invested in advancing its technology and capacity to meet the growing demand for cutting-edge energy storage solutions.
Hanover: A hub of innovation
Hanover's Clarios lithium-ion assembly site plays a central role in its global production strategy. It is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by a dedicated workforce. The facility pioneers the production of low-voltage battery systems and serves as a model for future sites.
David Patel, Vice President of Energy Systems at Clarios, highlights the facility's role in driving innovation: "Our teams in Hanover, Meadowbrook and worldwide set new standards daily. Their commitment and innovative spirit make Clarios what it is today."
The Hanover team is recognised for its teamwork and ongoing development, particularly its emphasis on integrating new expertise in engineering and software development.
Advancing expertise through strategic acquisition
In 2023, Clarios acquired Paragon Power, a strategic move that bolstered its capabilities.
The acquisition brought additional technical knowledge and experienced employees into the Clarios fold, enhancing the company's engineering and production efforts. Combining experience and fresh innovation has proven to be a critical factor in Clarios' success.
Currently, Clarios produces 12V high-performance lithium-ion low-voltage batteries, essential for modern vehicles. It is developing future-focused technologies such as sodium-ion batteries, supercapacitor solutions and dual-voltage systems.
The efforts reflect Clarios' commitment to sustainability and efficient mobility solutions for the future.
"Our investment in cutting-edge technologies underscores our dedication to driving sustainable mobility," David continues. "We are working tirelessly to develop new energy storage solutions that are both high-performance and environmentally responsible."
Clarios' focus on sustainable energy storage extends beyond product innovation to encompass robust production processes and a circular economy model. The company is well-known for its battery recycling initiatives, ensuring most of its products remain within the recycling loop.
The production of Clarios' one-millionth lithium-ion battery marks a new chapter in its evolution as a leader in energy storage. It signals readiness for the challenges ahead as the automotive industry continues its electrification journey.
With plans for further investments in research and development, Clarios aims to continue expanding its product portfolio to meet tomorrow's diverse energy needs. By developing sustainable, high-performance energy storage solutions, Clarios solidifies its position as a key player in shaping the future of mobility.
David concludes: "As the automotive world transforms, so does Clarios. We are excited about the future and remain committed to driving innovation and setting new industry standards."
The milestone demonstrates Clarios' leadership in the evolving energy systems landscape and illustrates its vision for a sustainable, electrified future.
