Boots and DHL Supply Chain launch a 100% EV fleet, reducing carbon emissions by 74 metric tonnes annually while enhancing sustainable retail logistics

Boots Thailand has partnered with DHL Supply Chain to introduce a 100% EV fleet in a strategic move towards a more sustainable and future-ready supply chain. The initiative expects to significantly reduce carbon emissions, with an estimated annual reduction of 74 metric tonnes.

By integrating EVs into last-mile logistics, the partnership will support decarbonising deliveries to more than 250 Boots stores across Thailand.

The transition aligns with broader national air quality goals and sets a new benchmark for sustainability in retail logistics.

Advancing green logistics with efficient EVs

The newly introduced EV fleet will provide round-the-clock urban distribution with minimal environmental impact. Equipped with fast-charging capabilities, the compact vehicles will ensure continuous and efficient operations.

Mark Koprowski, Managing Director of Boots Retail Thailand

Mark Koprowski, Managing Director of Boots Retail Thailand, commented on the initiative, stating, "We are proud to partner with DHL Supply Chain Thailand to introduce a fleet of 100% electric vehicles to deliver our medicines, healthcare, and beauty products from our warehouse to local Boots stores daily."

"Thailand is increasingly focused on improving its air quality, and this initiative not only supports that direction but also aligns with Boots' broader mission of integrating sustainability into every aspect of our business.

"We remain committed to reducing our carbon footprint by minimising emissions while ensuring the highest availability and quality of our product offerings for our customers."

Reducing emissions and strengthening sustainability goals

The partnership between DHL and Boots Thailand will reduce carbon emissions by 74 metric tonnes annually—equivalent to 176 round trips from southern to northern Thailand by car.

The initiative is a direct response to increasing regulatory scrutiny and consumer expectations around sustainable business practices.

Retail and logistics providers are under mounting pressure to integrate low-emission transport solutions within their supply chains. Deploying EVs in logistics operations demonstrates a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while enhancing operational efficiency.

EVs offer a cleaner alternative to conventional delivery vans, reducing both noise and air pollution in urban areas.

Companies can strengthen their sustainability credentials by adopting EV technology, setting themselves apart in a competitive market while supporting global environmental goals.

Enhancing logistics efficiency through EV technology

Introducing EVs into Boots Thailand's supply chain will add three EVs to its existing fleet. These vehicles, which can fully charge within an hour and travel up to 250km per charge, will optimise logistics operations while reducing downtime.

Their compact design enhances navigation in congested urban environments, making deliveries more efficient. The reduced carbon emissions and low-noise operation also enable 24/7 delivery capabilities without disrupting local communities. Facilitating off-peak hour distributions ensures improved delivery consistency and minimises traffic-related delays.

EVs offer operational benefits, including fewer moving parts than internal combustion engine vehicles, leading to lower maintenance costs and improved fleet reliability. By leveraging the technology, Boots Thailand and DHL Supply Chain aim to create a greener and more resilient supply chain.

DHL's commitment to sustainability

DHL Supply Chain continues to strengthen its position as a leader in sustainable logistics through its commitment to clean operations and decarbonisation. It has set ambitious targets to achieve 30% sustainable drives and fuels across its global fleet by 2026, aiming to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

In 2024, DHL Supply Chain launched Thailand's first fully renewable energy-powered warehouse, spanning 45,000 square metres and introduced the country's first fleet of Euro 5 standard trucks. The collaboration with Boots Thailand further reinforces DHL's leadership in green logistics.

Steve Walker, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Thailand Cluster

Steve Walker, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Thailand Cluster, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative:

"As a trusted partner of Boots Thailand, we are proud to support their sustainability journey.

"At DHL Supply Chain, we are also driving tangible change – including our commitment to achieving 30% sustainable drives and fuels across our global fleet by the end of 2026, in line with our global Green Transport Policy.

"Collaborating with like-minded partners like Boots Thailand, who share our vision for low-emission supply chains, accelerates this progress. Together, we are turning our sustainability ambitions into tangible action, delivering emission-reduced solutions that benefit our businesses and reduce our environmental impact on the planet."

Industry implications: A new standard for green logistics

The partnership between Boots Thailand and DHL Supply Chain highlights the growing importance of integrating sustainable technologies into large-scale logistics networks. As environmental regulations tighten and businesses strive to align with climate goals, the initiative is a model for other logistics providers to follow.

Focusing on last-mile delivery—a segment known for its high carbon footprint—the collaboration demonstrates how EVs can enhance operational efficiency while reducing emissions. Furthermore, the initiative reinforces the case for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)- driven investments across supply chain networks.

High-profile initiatives such as this have the potential to shape national transport policies and industry standards, positioning EV deployment as a viable, mainstream solution for commercial fleets. By leading in sustainable logistics, Boots Thailand and DHL Supply Chain are influencing both regulatory frameworks and corporate best practices, driving long-term transformation in the industry.
