Siemens’ Electrification X Powers Aral pulse’s EV Network

Siemens Smart Infrastructure has secured a five-year contract with Aral pulse to deploy Electrification X, a cutting-edge digital solution from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. The collaboration aims to transform the operation, optimisation and security of Aral pulse’s ultra-fast EV charging stations.
Over the past four years, Siemens has successfully delivered and commissioned 300 intelligent substations, seamlessly integrating them with Electrification X. These digital substations, essential for powering Aral pulse’s EV charging infrastructure, provide an output of up to 400 kilowatts (kW)—enabling EVs to charge up to 300 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes, depending on the vehicle model.
Enhancing charging efficiency and power grid integration
Alexander Junge, a member of the Aral AG Management Board overseeing Electromobility, highlighted the importance of infrastructure beyond high-power chargers:
“To make charging as quick as refueling vehicles with conventional fuels, we’re investing in ultra-fast chargers with outputs of up to 400 kW. But the chargers alone are not enough. Upgrades also require an efficient and reliable connection to the power grid. That’s why we’re happy to have Siemens on board as an expert in electrical infrastructure.”
Electrification X enhances grid connectivity and energy distribution across all charging locations. A real-time dashboard provides insights into safety-related messages, while digital condition monitoring offers a comprehensive visualisation of energy distribution at both medium- and low-voltage levels. The centralised system helps detect potential issues and ensures seamless operations.
Advanced security and compliance with NIS-2 Regulations
- Centralised service cloud for patches, updates and user management
- Multi-factor authentication (MFA) for access control
- Security information and event management (SIEM) for attack detection and cybersecurity compliance
The features ensure that Aral pulse’s charging infrastructure aligns with the NIS-2 directive, the European Union’s cybersecurity framework for critical infrastructure.
Dynamic load management for optimised charging
Electrification X’s Dynamic Load Management enhances charging efficiency by providing transparency into network utilisation. By leveraging remote control capabilities, the system prevents potential capacity limitations imposed by the distribution system operator (DSO), reducing the risk of costly power violations. The intelligent load distribution ensures that the charging network remains resilient and cost-effective.
Stephan May, CEO of Electrification and Automation at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, highlights the importance of merging digital and physical infrastructure:
“This project is a strong example of how we can connect the real and the digital worlds. The substations are the physical heart of the energy supply for Aral’s charging infrastructure, but without the connection to the digital world, each system would remain siloed. This central connection enables us to provide an efficient and secure charging infrastructure and, alongside Aral pulse, pave the way for sustainable and electrified mobility.”
Expanding the EV charging network
Building on the success of the existing infrastructure, Aral pulse is expanding its EV charging network by installing 350 additional digital substations at service stations across Germany. The expansion aims to strengthen further the availability and reliability of fast-charging options for EV drivers.
Electrification X: A scalable, future-ready solution
As part of Siemens Xcelerator, a digital platform designed to accelerate electrification and automation, Electrification X offers a cloud-based solution for commercial, industrial and utility customers. With a focus on:
- Interoperability for seamless integration with existing systems
- Flexibility and openness to adapt to evolving needs
- Cybersecurity excellence for robust protection
- Scalability as a service to support long-term growth
Electrification X is setting new standards in e-mobility infrastructure. As Siemens and Aral pulse continue their partnership, the initiative will drive the transition toward a more sustainable and electrified future.
