AmpUp & Curo Transform EV Fleet Charging Solutions

AmpUp, a leading provider of EV charging solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Curo, a pioneering Virtual Depot platform. The collaboration aims to transform fleet electrification by integrating AmpUp's extensive nationwide charging network with Curo's innovative platform. The partnership enables EV charger owners to lease their charging spots to fleets during off-peak hours, maximising infrastructure utilisation and revenue generation.
AmpUp will provide comprehensive software and hardware support to participating charging hosts, ensuring a flexible, cost-effective and highly efficient charging ecosystem. By leveraging the model, fleets can significantly reduce their reliance on costly dedicated charging infrastructure while accelerating the transition to electrified transportation.
Since its founding in 2018, AmpUp, located in San Francisco, has powered over 1,500 charging networks across 75 North American markets. It is trusted by major brands such as JLL, CBRE, Domino's Pizza, Goodyear, Under Armour and Hilton for delivering flexible and efficient EV charging solutions.
Conversely, Curo, with headquarters in the San Francisco Bay Area, provides scalable EV charging and real estate solutions that allow fleets to charge anywhere with no upfront infrastructure costs. Through its Virtual Depot model, Curo helps fleet operators electrify instantly while enabling EV charger owners to increase revenue by up to five times.
The partnership combines AmpUp's advanced charging technology with Curo's innovative leasing model, representing a significant step toward a more sustainable, cost-efficient and accessible EV charging infrastructure for fleets nationwide.
Tackling key barriers to fleet electrification
The AmpUp-Curo partnership addresses several major obstacles that have hindered widespread fleet electrification:
- High costs of dedicated infrastructure: Building private EV charging stations requires significant capital investment. The partnership provides fleets access to existing charging infrastructure, reducing upfront costs.
- Operational distribution needs: Many fleet operators require distributed charging options rather than centralised, fixed stations. Curo's platform enables flexible, location-based charging tailored to operational demands.
- Underutilisation of existing chargers: Many charging stations remain idle during off-peak hours. By leasing the underused chargers to fleets, site hosts generate additional revenue while increasing infrastructure efficiency.
Tom Sun, co-founder and CEO of AmpUp, states: "The complexities of EV charging infrastructure have long been a barrier to widespread fleet electrification.
"Our collaboration with Curo significantly reduces upfront investment, maximises infrastructure efficiency and provides our site hosts with new revenue streams while giving fleet operators dedicated access to reliable charging."
A win for the EV ecosystem
AmpUp and Curo's partnership benefits three key stakeholders: site hosts, fleet operators and fleet drivers.
For site hosts: Site hosts can monetise their EV charging infrastructure by offering stall rentals, particularly during night-time hours or 24/7. The solution turns underutilised charging stations into profitable assets, ensuring a higher return on investment without disrupting existing operations.
For fleet operators: Fleet operators gain cost-effective access to a reliable charging network without the burden of installing and maintaining dedicated chargers. The access allows for greater flexibility in deployment, reducing the complexities associated with setting up charging infrastructure on leased properties and expediting the transition to electric fleets.
For fleet drivers: Drivers benefit from convenient overnight charging, eliminating range anxiety and ensuring optimal vehicle positioning between home and work. The seamless integration improves operational efficiency while enhancing the overall EV driving experience.
Kieran White, co-founder and CEO of Curo, adds: "We chose AmpUp for its proven track record of delivering industry-leading reliability and comprehensive end-to-end support.
"Our goal is to enable a scalable leasing charging network for distributed fleets. This partnership is a crucial step towards making that vision seamless and scalable."
