Formula E Expands Horizons for Young Women in Motorsport
Formula E has unveiled significant enhancements to its FIA Girls on Track Programme for Season 11, furthering its commitment to gender diversity in motorsport.
Now in its seventh year, the grassroots initiative will engage more young women than ever with new race-day activations, exclusive access for 50 participants per market and additional e-karting and educational initiatives at schools and universities.
The developments are part of Formula E's broader strategy to break barriers and create pathways for women in motorsport and STEM careers.
Julia Palle, Vice President of Sustainability at Formula E, highlighted the importance of such initiatives, stating:
"We're committed to providing as much opportunity as possible for young women to grow in confidence and skills. The industry will benefit from this balance and inclusivity."
Highlights of the Season 11 programme
Expanded access and activations
- 120 young women will participate in behind-the-scenes workshops and tours before every race.
- On race days, 50 young women will have access to the FIA Girls on Track space within the Fan Village, where they can attend career talks led by prominent women in motorsport.
All-Women's test and career Inspiration
- The programme follows the groundbreaking all-women's test session in Madrid, where 17 elite drivers, including F1 Academy leader Abbi Pulling, showcased their skills in GEN3 Evo cars. The tests provide inspiration for young participants and demonstrate pathways to success.
Community engagement
Events will be tailored to local communities in each race market, aligning with Formula E's broader social impact strategy to engage and support regional initiatives.
New resources and connectivity
- A community newsletter will keep participants connected year-round.
- A centralised hub will link attendees with local STEM groups, motorsport organisations and educational opportunities.
Long-term commitment to gender diversity
Since partnering with the FIA on this initiative, Formula E has supported over 4,500 young women globally.
Julia Palle noted that inclusivity extends to the pinnacle of the sport, with initiatives like the all-women's test session offering elite drivers the chance to hone their skills and inspire others.
"FIA Girls on Track advances female participation and raises awareness about diversity and champions accessibility. Equal talent deserves equal opportunity."
ABB and Hankook: Driving support
Key partners back the Formula E Season 11 initiatives include Hankook (Presenting Partner), ABB (Principal Partner) and Fortescue Zero (Official Partner).
"This program showcases exciting STEM applications and career opportunities, breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated industries. Diversity is essential for success."
Building a brighter future
With expanded activities, committed partners and a growing participant base, the FIA Girls on Track Programme sets a new benchmark for inclusivity in motorsport.
Its holistic approach—combining education, inspiration and hands-on opportunities—ensures that young women globally are equipped to excel in STEM and motorsport careers.
As Formula E continues to grow, its commitment to advancing gender diversity and creating accessible pathways remains steadfast, inspiring the next generation to shape the future of motorsport.
