Siemens and Tietoevry, a leading Nordic digital engineering and software company, have teamed to advance the energy transition
Siemens & Tietoevry’s collaboration enhances grid capacity, integrate renewables & improve EV charging infrastructure across the Nordics

The collaboration between Siemens and Tietoevry is set to transform the Nordic energy landscape, particularly in the realm of EV charging infrastructure. The strategic partnership aims to accelerate the digital transformation of the energy sector, supporting the growing demand for EV charging and helping grid operators in the Nordics manage their infrastructure more effectively.

Digital transformation to support EV growth

As the adoption of EVs continues to rise, there is an increasing need for reliable and efficient charging networks. The Siemens-Tietoevry partnership addresses the challenge by leveraging Siemens' Gridscale X software platform, which will enhance Tietoevry's solutions for grid operators in the Nordic region.

The collaboration promises to provide the technological backbone needed to handle the evolving demands of a rapidly electrifying grid.

Magnus Torronen, Head of Siemens Grid Software in Northern Europe

Magnus Torronen, Head of Siemens Grid Software in Northern Europe, highlights the importance of this collaboration:

"The ongoing energy transition requires significant changes to the existing grid infrastructure and how it is managed. Due to the electrification of everything and the rapid growth of distributed energy resources, companies need to think about new ways of working and collaborating."

Enhanced grid capacity and renewable integration

One of the key benefits of the partnership is the enhanced management of grid capacity. As the number of EVs increase, so does the demand for electricity. The Gridscale X platform facilitates autonomous grid management, ensuring that grid operators can effectively handle the added load.

Moreover, the platform’s Dynamic Line Rating feature can increase transmission efficiency by up to 10-15%, ensuring that more power is available for EV charging stations.

Additionally, the integration of renewable energy into the grid is a significant priority for both Siemens and Tietoevry. By improving the capacity and flexibility of the grid, the partnership supports the goal of powering EVs with clean, renewable energy, thus reducing their overall carbon footprint.

Niko Jauhiainen, Head of Asset & Data Solutions, Energy & Utilities, Tietoevry

Niko Jauhiainen from Tietoevry adds, "The partnership, leveraging Siemens' expertise and the Gridscale X software platform, helps us add more capabilities to our next-generation solutions, supporting our utility customers in grid life-cycle management and addressing challenges related to grid flexibility."

Seamless EV Charging Payments Across the Region

In a related initiative, Siemens, Tietoevry and Seitatech have teamed up to launch a groundbreaking payment solution for EV charging. The solution will enable EV drivers across Norway, the Nordics, the Baltics and the EU to enjoy a seamless payment experience using credit/debit cards, mobile wallets and wearables. The introduction of this payment solution further reinforces the commitment to enhancing the EV ecosystem and making EV ownership more convenient.

Looking ahead: A digitally transformed grid for EV owners

For EV owners in the Nordic region, the benefits of this partnership will soon be apparent. As the grid becomes more efficient and capable of handling increased demand, drivers can expect a more reliable, faster and user-friendly charging experience. The digital transformation of the grid, enabled by the Siemens-Tietoevry partnership, will play a crucial role in supporting the widespread adoption of EVs, creating a more sustainable and efficient energy future for the region.
