Renault: Expanding Bidfood Netherlands' Electric Truck Fleet

Bidfood Netherlands, a premier wholesale food supplier established in 1949, continues to drive sustainability in food logistics.
Serving approximately 25,000 customers across the Netherlands, the company has taken bold steps toward reducing its carbon footprint by integrating EVs into its delivery fleet.
Partnering with Renault Trucks, Bidfood Netherlands has incorporated electric trucks for food deliveries to restaurants, hotels and other hospitality businesses.
Renault Trucks' E-Tech series, produced at the Blainville-sur-Orne factory in France, has become a key solution in the logistics sector. Bidfood Netherlands stands out as a notable adopter of this technology.
Expanding the electric fleet
In a recent move demonstrating its commitment to sustainability, Bidfood Netherlands announced the expansion of its electric fleet.
It has ordered 25 Renault Trucks E-Tech vehicles, doubling its zero-emission fleet to 50 trucks. The strategic decision represents a significant investment in decarbonising its logistics operations.
Renault Trucks, which has been at the forefront of sustainable transport, acknowledges the growing demand for electrification in the industry.
Jérôme Berthelet, Managing Director of Renault Trucks Netherlands, states: "For three years, we have worked closely with Bidfood to integrate EVs into their fleet and address the operational challenges of their logistics.
"This collaboration has enabled us to develop customised solutions aligned with their constraints and decarbonisation ambitions."
A measurable impact on emissions reduction
Since 2021, Bidfood Netherlands has been using 25 Renault Trucks E-Tech vehicles, collectively preventing 230 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The milestone reflects its commitment to reducing environmental impact while ensuring efficient and reliable food distribution.
Dick Slootweg, Managing Director of Bidfood Netherlands, outlines the tangible benefits of electromobility: "These tangible results show that electromobility is not a distant ambition but an operational and effective reality. It allows us to reduce our environmental footprint while meeting our customers' growing expectations for sustainability."
With the additional 25 electric trucks expected to be integrated by the first quarter of 2025, Bidfood Netherlands aims to enhance its sustainable logistics strategy further.
Renault Trucks' role in sustainable mobility
Renault Trucks' Blainville-sur-Orne production site, the first European factory to produce electric trucks on a large scale, is at the heart of the electromobility revolution.
Since March 2020, the facility has been manufacturing the Renault Trucks E-Tech D and D Wide models—medium-duty electric trucks designed specifically for urban and suburban transport.
The delivery of the 2,000th electric truck from this plant to Bidfood Netherlands underscores the growing industry-wide shift towards decarbonised logistics solutions. By incorporating more EVs, businesses like Bidfood Netherlands are setting a precedent for the future of sustainable transport.
The ongoing partnership between Bidfood Netherlands and Renault Trucks highlights a broader trend in logistics that prioritises green solutions without compromising efficiency. As the food distribution industry increasingly seeks to align with sustainability goals, Bidfood Netherlands is positioning itself as a leader in responsible logistics.
With 50 Renault Trucks E-Tech vehicles soon to be in operation, it is taking a major step forward in reducing its carbon footprint and reinforcing its commitment to a cleaner, greener future.
The expansion of its electric fleet marks yet another milestone in the evolution of sustainable food logistics, proving that the transition to electromobility is not only viable but already underway.
