Formula E has partnered with Infosys to launch an AI-powered Race Centre that aims to reshape the spectator experience through intelligent data integration and real-time analytics.

The platform aims to place fans closer to the action by processing complex race data and delivering it through an accessible, interactive interface.

“Formula E is a powerful platform to demonstrate how AI can reshape sports,” says Sumit Virmani, EVP and Global Chief Marketing Officer at Infosys.

“With Infosys Topaz and Infosys Cobalt at the core of the new Race Centre, we are redefining the race-day experience from real-time, responsible AI insights to cloud-native scale that meets global demand.

“This season, fans can expect intelligent commentary, deeper explainers and richer interactions that extend beyond the broadcast window.

“We’re optimistic about what comes next – together with Formula E, we’re building a futuristic blueprint of how AI and cloud can elevate performance and storytelling, across the world of sport.”

Enhancing engagement

The technology processes more than 1.5 million data points generated during each race, distilling this information into comprehensible Race Centre dashboards through Topaz agents.

Race control updates, race positions and car movements are integrated to create a 2D racetrack visualisation as part of the interactive dashboard.

As races unfold, a generative AI commentary engine built on Topaz's AI foundation delivers real-time, context-aware race narration designed to enhance viewer understanding.

The platform includes interactive engagement features that allow audiences to participate by predicting podium outcomes during both practice and qualifying sessions.

Fans can also vote for PIF Driver of the Race, adding a participatory dimension to the viewing experience.

The PITBOOST tracking feature offers visibility into the fast-charging capabilities during mandatory pit stops, providing insight into charge stops and enabling fans to track how driver positions might influence race momentum.

Additionally, the platform offers functionality to track selected drivers, enabling better understanding of race development including overtakes and attack mode deployments.

This tracking capability can be accessed at any time during the race.

Targeting digital-native audiences

The AI-enhanced fan experience could help bring viewers closer to the track whilst aligning with Formula E's strategy of attracting a younger, more digitally native audience.

By combining live telemetry, timing data and race control inputs, Infosys and Formula E's AI Race Centre processes these elements into a single, user-facing interface in real time.

“Formula E’s vision is to lead the future of sustainable motorsport and technology is the catalyst that continues to push our sport forward,” says Dan Cherowbrier, Chief Technology Officer at Formula E.

With Infosys, we’re elevating how fans experience every lap with clearer insights, more interactive moments and greater accessibility to the stories unfolding on and off the track.

“The Race Centre, powered by Infosys, helps fans feel closer to the race.

“Looking ahead, this platform sets the stage for a smarter, more connected future in which innovation and electric racing move forward together.”
