Electric Beer: Inside Carlsberg's EV Fleet Initiative

Carlsberg Sweden has announced an expansion of its electric transport operations.
The Swedish division of the Danish brewing giant is amplifying its collaboration with freight technology pioneer Einride in 2025.
This partnership aims for EVs to manage up to 40% of Carlsberg Sweden's transport activities in southern and western Sweden.
The deployment plan includes rolling out eleven electric trucks with trailers within the current year.
"We are excited about our partnership with Einride and the progress we are making towards better logistics together,â says Peter Hammarstedt, CEO of Carlsberg Sweden.
âAt Carlsberg Sweden, we are constantly working to take concrete steps towards a more sustainable business, and having more electric vehicles in our transport chain is one example of this.
âWe hope this can raise awareness of the importance of better and smarter logistics - and inspire others to take action in their industries.â
Carlsbergâs plans to go electric
Logistics represent a substantial portion of Carlsbergâs carbon footprint, so the shift to EVs marks a crucial development towards the groupâs Net Zero Carbon Footprint goal for 2040.
By utilising Einride's comprehensive platform of EVs and AI-controlled charging stations, Carlsberg Sweden anticipates reducing greenhouse gas emissions by roughly 2,460 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
The conversion from diesel to electric vehicles is projected to bring about a 93% decrease in carbon dioxide emissions.
Since the inception of its partnership with Einride in 2022, the brewer has accumulated 340,000 electric kilometres, an achievement akin to traveling around the world eight times.
The âElectric Beerâ campaign
To honour this achievement, Carlsberg Sweden is embarking on an 'Electric Beer' campaign, launching a limited-edition alcohol-free beer that reflects its dedication to sustainability.
The uniquely crafted beverage is brewed, produced and transported entirely using 100% renewable energy and a fully electric transport system.
Each can features a QR code that offers information about the brewing process and the future transport journey covering Malmo, Falkenberg and Gothenburg.
"Carlsberg has a strong brewing tradition, and with the help of advanced transport technology, it is now carrying on that legacy,” says Linnéa Kornehed Falck, Founder and Vice President of Einride.
âIt's not just about sustainability; it's about pushing the boundaries of transport technology, with electric power being a step towards redefining how products are transported.
âThis campaign brings that to life and shows what is possible when tradition and innovation meet.â
Industry leadership
The Electric Beer project builds on Carlsberg Swedenâs 2022 milestone as the first in the alcoholic beverage sector to electrify heavy freight logistics.
The campaign encourages consumers to reflect on the environmental implications of product transportation and manufacturing methods.
For Carlsberg, this initiative symbolises not just ecological advantages, but potential long-term business benefits through heightened efficiency and diminished operational expenses.
With the beverage industry facing growing scrutiny over sustainability practices, Carlsberg's US$7.2m investment in electric logistics positions the company as a forward-thinking leader in addressing Scope 3 emissions.
âSince 2022, Einride and Carlsberg Sweden have saved over 418 tonnes of CO2e and driven 340,000 fully-electric kilometres,â says Simon Boas Hoffmeyer, Global Head of Sustainability & ESG at Carlsberg Group.
“The Electric Beer marks the latest milestone in their partnership, aiming to save up to 2,460 tonnes of CO2e yearly in the coming years.”
