Rachel Bence

Rachel has worked in the HE sector for 9 years, and was IT Director at the University of Bristol prior to joining Queen Mary as CIO in 2019. Previously, Rachel worked in Systems Engineering and IT leadership at Airbus.

At Queen Mary, Rachel has overseen unprecedented levels of investment in digital capability, and in the IT Services teams and operating model.  This has included migration of services to the cloud, transformation of the student learning experience, and digital research capability building.  Going forward Rachel’s key challenges are AI, data strategy and governance.

Rachel holds a PG diploma in management (Lancaster) and a PhD in Particle Physics.
