Chris Shanahan
VP Global Sustainability – Supply Chain Operations
Chris Shanahan is the Vice-President of Global Procurement for Thermo Fisher Scientific. Joining the company in January 2018, Chris has been pivotal in leveraging Thermo Fisher's scale in the marketplace, building capability, and streamlining processes across the organisation. Chris's role has been instrumental in transforming the supply base to ensure optimal efficiency and effectiveness.
Before Thermo Fisher Scientific, Chris served as the Senior Vice President of Global Procurement, Facilities, and Real Estate at Becton Dickinson (BD) for 18 years. Chris's career in procurement and supply chain began with significant leadership roles at SmithKline Beecham and Essilor, where he developed expertise in materials management, supply chain operations, and procurement strategies across Europe. Chris's extensive experience includes global and virtual people leadership, strategy development, negotiation, and results orientation within global supply networks.
In addition to his corporate role, Chris is an Adjunct Professor in the Supply Chain Master's programme at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He is a Sustainable Procurement Pledge ambassador and co-authored The Procurement Leader’s Handbook. Chris also serves on the board of EPICA International and actively participates in CPO Rising conferences. Chris holds an MBA from The Open University and is dedicated to advancing sustainable procurement practices within the industry.
