Italy Accelerates EV Shift with Siemens' Charging Solutions
Italy's EV landscape is experiencing a significant transformation as Siemens eMobility implements cutting-edge charging solutions across Tuscany's public transport network.
The collaboration with Autolinee Toscane, operating under the RATP DEV Italia Group, marks a decisive step toward electrified public transportation, with significant developments in Florence, Prato and Lucca.
Advanced charging infrastructure for zero-emission fleet
The EV initiative centres on deploying 73 SICHARGE UC charging stations, representing a significant advancement in EV charging capabilities.
The stations deliver impressive power outputs of 100 and 150 kW, establishing the foundation for a reliable zero-emission bus fleet. Integrating IoT-enabled switches within medium and low-voltage electrical distribution systems ensures consistent power delivery for the growing EV fleet.
Smart technology integration for EV fleet management
Implementing the Siemens' DepotFinity software platform brings sophisticated EV fleet management capabilities to Tuscany's bus operations. The innovative system enables comprehensive monitoring of charging processes, sophisticated load management and detailed vehicle performance tracking.
The platform's smart charging logic optimises energy distribution based on operational requirements while facilitating essential functions like battery pre-conditioning and mileage tracking.
Transforming logistics with EV infrastructure
Beyond public transport, Siemens eMobility's partnership with IPLANET is transforming Italy's logistics sector through the electrification of 120 sites.
The initiative features state-of-the-art charging infrastructure with high-power charging points delivering 300-400 kW, equipped with AFIR-compliant Point of Sale systems. These advanced stations offer user-friendly activation through mobile apps or QR codes, with accessibility features for all users.
Creating next-generation EV service areas
The IPLANET collaboration demonstrates the evolution of traditional fueling stations into comprehensive EV charging hubs. These modernised facilities incorporate the following:
- Photovoltaic installations for sustainable energy generation
- Battery energy storage systems for parking areas
- Specialised heavy-duty e-truck charging capabilities
- Scalable transformer substations
- Advanced electrical distribution systems with telecontrol features
