Zoox Robotaxi is Expanding in Las Vegas and San Francisco

Zoox robotaxis officially landed on the Las Vegas strip in 2025 and have since driven nearly two million autonomous miles and carried more than 350,000 riders.
Last month, the Amazon owned company announced a significant expansion to San Francisco and Miami as well as initial rollouts in Austin, Texas and Miami, Florida.
Zooxâs vehicles, fitted with subway style doors, are powered by an electric battery that can deliver 16 hours on a single charge.
What is a Zoox robotaxi?
Zoox says that its vehicle is a ârobotaxi designed around youâ. Riders of the robotaxi service have access to in-seat controls for music and temperature as well as wireless charging and sound cues for the journey.
Zooxâs autonomous vehicles can ride at a top speed of 75 miles per hour in either direction, while offering up to 16 hours of charge on a single charge.
The EV has four wheel steering and uses a unique sensor architecture combining cameras, radars and lidars to see its surroundings.
In a brochure, Zoox says its vehicles are built with a powerful compute system, as well as redundant backups, that house its proprietary software.
Jesse Levinson, Co-Founder and CTO of Zoox, says: âSince our inception in 2014, weâve strongly believed that a purpose-built approach is the best way to solve the challenge of autonomy and offer a wonderful experience.
âAs Zoox becomes a part of our riders' daily lives, it is clearer than ever that purpose-built is the future. We are excited to build on this momentum and expand whatâs possible with the unique product our customers are beginning to know and love.â
Zoox's US expansion
In March of 2026, Zoox announced that it was gearing up to expand its service in San Francisco and Las Vegas. The company also announced it was to begin an initial rollout of its robotaxi service in Austin and Miami.
Aicha Evans, CEO of Zoox, says: âThis expansion marks a significant step forward for Zoox and is driven by the insights from our early deployments.
âThis is our year of growth. We are actively implementing learnings to confidently and safely scale our robotaxi service across the country and bring our differentiated experience to even more riders.â
Beginning in Spring of 2026, Zooxâs service will be available to a large portion of the Eastern side of San Francisco including the Marina, North Beach, Chinatown, as well as Pacific Heights and along the Embarcadero. The company is quadrupling its offerings in the area.
In Las Vegas, the company has more than doubled the number of locations for Zoox service.
In Austin and Miami, Zoox is conducting an initial rollout within a small area of both cities, with rides first available to Zoox employees as well as their families and friends.
Robotaxi deployments
McKinsey says that autonomous vehicles (AVs) are on the on-ramp to full deployment.
The consulting firm says that Europe has been home to more than 35 autonomous-vehicle pilots to date and the United States and China each see more than 450,000 and 250,000 commercial rides per week respectively.
Zoox has been a key player during the rollout of this technology which is increasingly expanding. The company was founded in 2014 and bought by Amazon in 2020.
Jeff Wilke, formerly Amazonâs CEO, said when announcing the acquisition: "Zoox is working to imagine, invent and design a world-class autonomous ride-hailing experience.
"Like Amazon, Zoox is passionate about innovation and about its customers, and we're excited to help the talented Zoox team to bring their vision to reality in the years ahead."
