The FĂ©dĂ©ration Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and Formula E have debuted the new GEN4 car on track at Circuit Paul Ricard in the South of France.

The new car will be raced in the 2026/27 Season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

How fast can the GEN4 car go?

The GEN4 is capable of speeds over 335 kph. It can achieve 0 to 100 kph in approximately 1.8s and 0 to 200kph in just 4.4s, which is 1.5s faster than its predecessor.

GEN4 produces up to 600 kW of power, a 71% increase in base output over GEN3 Evo.

It features permanent all-wheel drive, new tyres and significantly increased downforce. It is also the fastest accelerating car in Formula E history

H.E. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President, says: “The new GEN4 Formula E car marks a significant step forward for electric racing, setting a new global benchmark for performance, innovation and sustainability.

“It is not just a fast car, it is a statement of intent about the future of this technology. I am proud that the FIA and its partners in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship are leading this vision.”

Unlike previous generations that used front-motor power only in specific boost modes, the GEN4 utilises active torque distribution across all four wheels at all times.

The GEN4 on track

The demonstration in Le Castellet saw all the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship teams and manufacturers in attendance, including Porsche, Jaguar, Nissan, Stellantis, Mahindra and Lola Cars.

This on-track demonstration in France showed GEN4’s pace in real conditions, with overtake laps on the GEN1, GEN2 and GEN3.

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, says: “GEN4 isn’t just a car, it's a bold declaration of our ambition. Seeing what it can do on track for the first time is a real milestone for Formula E - we are now delivering performance levels that were thought impossible for electric vehicles just five years ago.

“The step up in performance is immediately clear, from the speed and power to the way it delivers on track, and there was a genuine buzz among everyone who witnessed it. This is a hugely exciting moment for the Championship as we head into the upcoming 2026/27 Season, and a clear signal of where we are headed.”

Teams announcing GEN4 cars

Porsche, Opel GSE Formula E Team, Jaguar TCS Racing and CitroĂ«n Racing have all unveiled debut GEN4 cars for the upcoming season.

The sustainable GEN4 chassis is 100% recyclable, featuring bodywork constructed from at least 20% recycled carbon fibre and bio-based composites.
